"........Like Paper Moon Dragons?" [Fulei] 26953510

Today was a special day for Hun-Hun, it was the day she'd finally set foot in Ba Sing Se (for the 3rd time that year) and find herself in some good Earth Kingdom soil. Not that she didn't mind being in the air, but after traveling for 4 days straight she was desperate to see some rock and roots. She popped the reigns on Mei-Mei's horns and urged the bison forward, her companion groaned in response. "I know buddy, I know,"Hun-Hun murmured and narrowed her eyes against the sharp winds, "But we gotta keep going. We're almost there see? Look! The outer wall!" Hun-Hun stiffened up and urged her bison on faster, all traces of fatigue abandoned.

As usual, she and Mei-Mei zoomed over the outer wall of the city without passing through the platform booth. And as usual, the guards just rolled their eyes as the airbender flew by in a whirlwind of maniacal laughter. Speaking of said crazy pair, Mei-Mei landed in the agricultural field at the west wall and made herself comfortable post-haste. She flopped down on a patch of flat grass and rolled over on her side, mooing or groaning or whatever bison usually do.
Hun-Hun kicked up her staff with airbending and caught it,"Alright Little Sister, behave yourself. You know the drill buddy, all the leftovers from the harvest are over there." She gestured to a hefty stack of barley by a small lake behind them. Mei-mei merely rolled her eyes and snuffed at her handler. "Yea yea I'm goin'. Be back in a few hours!" Hun-Hun beamed. Crouching low to the ground, she sprinted towards the wall and skimmed it before bouncing off and popping her glider open. The wind current picked up and she tore through the heavens towards the inner city.

"Alright Hun, time to paint the town red and show 'em what you're made of. If....the square is still open. Dang it!" She looped and landed in front of an antique store.Hun-Hun blinked a few times before slinging her spear-staff over her shoulder and sauntered down the street, whistling a popular Water Tribe song. The glint in her eyes and the lopsided grin betrayed her happy mood, she was deathly excited to be here. This was her first venture without supervision and she was going to live it up to the full, so long as she 'Uphold the honor and model conduct of a proper Air Nomad.' 'Sure thing Granny Niu, sure thing.'

A shrill whistle snapped her out of her thoughts and she found herself in the midst of stands that sold everything from tea to exotic goods. The atmosphere was loud, the people were indeed sweaty and HunHun was caught in the war of "Buy and Sell"!

She breathed in a sigh,"Business first." HunHun marched up to a random wooden stand further down and narrowed her eyes at the owner. On the counter were little trinkets and knick knacks of every sort, and on the signs were masks ranging in various colors and sizes. Her bison-skin pouch clinked against her sash and she pursed her lips in a hard smirk.

"Afternoon Jiaojie."
A girl with chestnut brown hair and olive green eyes popped up from behind the stand and squealed,"Hun-Hun, hey! How are.......you? The earthbender blinked in confusion and raised an eyebrow. "Something uh....something wrong?"
Hun-Hun suddenly slammed her hands on the counter and glowered,"Don't act like you don't know!"
"Eep!" Jiaojie flinched and hid behind her hands, "I'm sorry I'm sorry! I tried to hold your spot but.....but Akito sold it!"
Hun-Hun fingers tightened around her pouch and she devoured a growl, "That little.....!!!! Fair enough I guess, so what jerk has my spot this time?"

Jiaojie peeked between her fingers at her good friend and felt a chill run down her spine. Her eyes absently lingered to the right before snapping back into focus. Unfortunately the airbender caught the gesture. "What......?" Hun-Hun unclenched her fists and followed Jiaojie's gaze to the right. There, standing against a building wall in the place where HER stand would be was some boy. He was tall, with mussy ink-black hair and was just......kinda there. Jiaojie snuck a glance in her direction and darted eyes from her to the other kid.

Hun-Hun put her hands on her hips and glanced at Jiaojie.
She stepped forward.
Jiaojie paled, "Hun! Don't do anything stupid. It's just...It's just a spot, if you want it that bad you can share mine!"

The airbender rolled her eyes,"Relax Jiaojie. I'm just gonna' give the boy a good ol' welcome.....Water Tribe style." HunHun stalked off in the boy's direction and narrowly missed Jiaojie when she leaped for her wrist. The airbender weaved through the throngs of people and stopped when she found herself standing next to the Thief.

"Hey there!" She beamed and went to grab for his elbow as a handshake, "How's it goin'!"

Fu

Fu rarely bothered to go to town to sell his little trinkets and knick-knacks, mostly because he lacked any real confidence that they were any good. They were usually little treasures he made himself as a hobby, or to keep himself preoccupied or distracted. However, being the sort of person he was - needing to be distracted from his depressive thoughts quite a lot – Fu tended to end up with quite a collection of little bits and pieces that would take over his miniscule little room at the army barracks. It was no surprise, then that he decided the only way to get rid of them (short of throwing them away completely) was to try and sell the little things. He was by no means a big market trader like his numerous brothers, but he tended to be able to shift a few now and then if need be.

Only this time was a little different, as Fu had been caught short on money the other day, trying to buy a birthday gift for his fourth eldest brother, Wulei. The last thing he needed was to go to the family gathering, in the shabbiest clothes with no sign of a gift in sight. And then the tirade of constant ‘Why can’t you be like your brothers?’ would come, and Fu would have to sit and smile awkwardly and shrug and say that he hadn’t found what he was successful at yet. He grimaced at the thought. Family meetings were not good for his confidence at all and it was just a collection of hours showing him how unlike his brothers were. How painfully awkward.

He shook his head, trying to disperse the thoughts and putting on a weak little smile as he returned his attention to the carving he was doing at the moment in his hand. Currently it looked like a misshapen cabbage, but was supposed to be a badger-mole. Fu’s stand – if it could have been called that – was not exactly the sort of thing that showed great skill as a haggler or a seller of wares. The most he could muster was a dusty rug on the floor, where he sat with his legs crossed and his collection of little figures and paper cut outs strewn about in some vague semblance of order. It was all well and good. Not being table height meant that no thieving little hands could snatch anything away without his apparent knowledge (though, why they would want to, he did not know). However, there tended to be an occurrence that whenever there was a mad throng of people busying to-and-fro, at foot height, sent the little figures flying here and there, and he already lost two paper cut-outs under someone’s foot. For this, he started to seriously dislike the market trader opposite him, who would be able to muster a crowd of people in what seemed like an instant.

Sighing softly, Fu tried to keep all thoughts out of his head, and just calmly went about his work. Business was particularly slow today, and he was wondering if perhaps it would be best to pack up and just leave. Though he shook his head and tried to think that it was only the morning still, things could still change, surely? He rolled his shoulders and went to go back to chipping the block of wood, when suddenly it seemed a shadow stood over him. Fu blinked and raised his head, trying to not look as surprised as he felt upon seeing someone standing at his ‘stand’, looking over his wares (looking surprised at having a customer was not good for business, Fu learnt that a long time ago, it was just a shame he didn’t learn much else about being a market trader).

The girl – for it was a girl – was young and pretty – she had an exotic look (then again, anything outside of the Earth Kingdom was exotic to Fu, as he had never travelled far, and never outside of his own kingdom) and had a large beaming smile on her face. She had one of those stick-kite-things he had seen people on occasion wander about with. Not being knowledgeable in the ways of other Benders (truly, he barely knew about Earth bending, even though he saw it practically every day at the barracks) Fu assumed such stick-kite-things were some kind of farming tool, though quite how they would work tilling the fields he couldn’t be sure (not that he knew much about farming to begin with).

He realised he hadn’t greeted her, and after being scolded by his brother when working in his shop for a brief stint, Fu had learnt that not greeting your customers was very rude. Deciding that he did not want to lose out on a potential sell, Fu quickly stood up, dropping the little block he was carving and the knife, he wiped the little chipped bits of wood from his hands. He even went to so far to manage a “Uh…” to begin speaking, but was suddenly broken from any chain of thought by the vibrant (and loud) greeting from the girl herself. He found his elbow being grabbed in some overly-friendly handshake - his hand, surprised and not knowing what to do just sort of hung there while his elbow was shaken, while he blinked repeatedly, a little taken aback by the overly bright greeting.

“U-uh… alright thank you” he replied, not sure if the girl meant it in the ‘how is it going/how are you?’ sense, or in the ‘how is it going/how is business?’ sense. He thought that his answer covered both bases. Awkwardly, his eyes flicked down to the rug, trying to think of what to say next. Fu so disliked these awkward customer-exchanges, he was never very good at them. Upon glancing at the rug however, he noticed one of his paper cut outs which was currently and unceremoniously squashed under the girl’s foot. Fu paused for a moment, he really needed to find a new place for the paper ones, they tended to be collateral damage in this game of buy and sell.

He blinked, before glancing back to the girl and pointing down towards the ground, “Um, your foot” he murmured quietly. He hoped he hadn’t offended her. Some customers tended to get right touchy when you told them things, even though he knew that she hadn’t meant to sabotage his wares maliciously.

"........Like Paper Moon Dragons?" [Fulei] 26953510

Hun-Hun's shoulders slumped and she leaned forward. 'Well HE just took all the fun out of picking with him.' She let go of his elbow and folded her arms across her chest, her face pensive all but 3 seconds. The bewildered look on his face was priceless, really, it took all of her strength to suppress a giggle....naturally it came out strangled. "Uh..er...ahem!"Hun-Hun cleared her throat awkwardly and then cast her eyes over at another stand nearby.

Well this was weird.

Her ears twitched and she glanced in the Thief's direction, "Wait what?" She looked from him to the rug he sat on and shifted. There was a rustling sound and, lifting up her foot she found....a funny paper snake....thing? 'Looks like one of those paper-cut out things mom used to make...and the ones at the temples.' Hun-Hun ran her fingers over the material and smoothed it out fiercely. It was a brilliant pastel gold in color, the details lined in crimson with whiskers that flapped in the breeze. Hun-Hun brought it close to her face and then looked down at the Thief.

"You made this? This looks like.....like a paper dragon. Can you make any more? Hun-Hun dropped down in front of him and swiftly went into a lotus position. She slung her glider-staff across her folded legs and loomed over the rest of the kid's display. There were little wood figurines, more paper cut-outs and just about everything from few woodwinds to shinies.

Hun-Hun scratched her chin dramatically,"I gotta give it to you Thief, you're pretty good. This stuff is amazing! Do you carve yours from bogwood? It's kinda brittle...but when you lacquer everything it gives it a shiny and sturdy finish!"

Jiaojie looked up from her seat behind her stand and shook her head. The poor kid was in for it now. "Sweet Oma 'n' Shu, he's never going to get away now. Once Hun gets going it'll be hard for her to stop." She giggled as Hun-Hun's hands flailed and at the rise and fall of her best friend's eyebrows. Suddenly the airbender went ram-rod straight and looked the boy in the eyes. Jiaojie grimaced.

"For the love of Kuei.....my doom senses are tingling."

Hun-Hun's blue eyes twinkled mischievously and she grinned at the Thief. "Hey Thief, I think I know how I can help you. Name's Hun-Hun by the way, what's yours?"

ooc: Short post is short! >.<

Fu

Fu wasn’t sure quite how to react to this strange customer. She was not like the few customers he did have, transactions were fairly simple, they asked for a price, pointed, handed over the money and left. This girl seemed oddly curious about his things, and seemed to take great delight in observing everything, before bursting into a barrage of conversation – I say conversation, though it was very one sided as Fu tended to be quiet anyways and the girl seemed to rather enjoy taking charge and saying as much as she wanted about the things they had set out on the mat between them. She had seated herself across the rug from him, with her strange farming implement sat across her legs, while she nursed the paper dragon between her fingers. He looked a little less crumpled, but Fu decided he might have to be tucked away and replaced another day.

It was part the way through her talking, that a word pricked at Fu’s ears, and he blinked innocently, a little curious with his head tilted to the side. Fu was not one to interrupt people, and certainly not someone who seemed so energetic and vibrant with their chain of thought, though the term ‘Thief’ made him question quite what she thought of him, so much so that he repeated ”Thief?” outloud, though just under his breath in some vain hope of comprehension for the term. As far as Fu was aware, he hadn’t stolen anything. Everything on the rug was his own work, they barely cost anything to make, and he wasn’t charging extortionate amounts of money for his little tidbits and trinkets. In all honesty, he was barely making money at all, but Fu did not feel right charging any more for the little things, especially as he believed his skills weren’t exactly very good when it came to handicrafts.

”They’re not hard to make” he murmured softly while rearranging the items on the rug. He wondered if the girl had even heard him, as it seemed she hadn’t come up for air yet, and as said, he was not the sort to loudly interrupt someone while they were on a role with talking. Fu flicked his dark gaze up to her again, she had a very pretty face, and it was only after a moment of a lingering gaze that he realised he was blushing ever-so faintly, and so he quickly averted his gaze elsewhere, lest he be accused of being a ‘pervert’ or worse. It hadn’t happened yet, but he suspected girls always thought the worst of him. He would find gaggles of them whispering about him behind their hands sometimes when he wandered down the street, and when walking with any of his numerous brothers, he was always completely ignored.

He nodded softly at what he felt were correct intervals of her chatting, occasionally adding miniscule little murmurs of ”Bogwood is fine, I like Burnt Oak too”, ”I try to do it in my spare time” and other such little words for his part of the conversation – again, not entirely sure if she actually heard him or held her breath long enough to hear an answer. Not that it mattered, he briefly lifted his gaze from reorganising his little handicrafts to find the girl grinning across at him with a suspiciously mischevious grin. It instantly made Fu uncomfortable, and he tentatively leant back a little away from her at that. Fu tended to be suspicious of people who grinned like that. Usually a grin like that lead to trouble, and Fu, who had enough mishaps and trouble of his own sort anyway, tended to like trying to avoid trouble caused by other people. Apparently she could help him. Help him with what? He wondered, but then found the girl introducing herself to him.

Hun-Hun seemed like a nice name. Not the sort of name you would get from a local from Ba Sing Se, but then again, the exotic looking girl clearly wasn’t a local from the city. At least it wasn’t a name he could easily forget (that tended to sometimes be a common occurrence with Fu’s memory) but this was an odd-enough one and matched a strange enough girl that Fu, although not confident, believed vaguely that he might remember it nonetheless. It was at this point, that he realised the girl had asked him a question, and he blinked, finding the colour rising in his again while he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. He was getting embarrassed, and he prayed that he wouldn’t. He wasn’t even certain as to what he was embarrassed or blushing about. But it didn’t matter, it was happening and he was desperately wishing it wasn’t.

”Um… it-its Fulei-… er, Fu”
