Edit: To prove that I am in want of the avatar position, I am going to play Xue as a water bender that lives in the swamps - her powers not yet revealed to the world. I decided to create an avatar because I wanted to be involved with the story line deeply, and because I wanted to interact the most with the different nations. I brought a character that isn’t ready to be the avatar yet, as you can see by her character flaws, and will need to develop more as a friend and protector in order succeed in balancing the world. Avatar Xue Xui
Full Name: Xue Xui (Chinese pronunciation: Shway Shoo-eh)
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Element: Water Bender and Amateur Earth Bender
Birthplace: Northern Water Tribe – Currently Resides in the Swamps of the Earth Kingdom
Personality: Upon first meeting Xue, it is easy to like her. She is clever and good humored, with mischief in her heart. While Xue may seem amiable and friendly, she is in reality a watcher of people and things, constantly taking notes and analyzing those that are around her. She is simply friendly so that you may reveal something to her. She likes to drink in details of beauty and personalities. She does not feel like she relates well with other human beings, but rather is somewhat above them. Humans destroy and conquer their environment in order to control and master it. Xue’s avatar wisdom is in that she knows better, and will adapt and mesh with the environment without demolishing or changing anything drastically. Her folly is that she is unable to bring any kind of balance to the world, unless she first brings balance to the people that dwell upon it.
Abilities: Much like her previous incarnation, Aang, she is considered to be a being of “raw power”. Her skills are a water bender permeate all that she does. Able to move trees, to levitate saturated soil, to walking on water, and even the less venerable skills such as dehydrating skin on contact, pulling water from blood or flesh, and even the occasional blood bending. Her water bending abilities falter in the healing of human flesh. She has problems feeling empathy with other human beings, preferring the company of flowers and animals, this leading to her inability with human flesh.
Her water bending is also her means of contacting the spirit world. She, on occasion, can see to the spirit world in the form of reflections upon watery surfaces or even rain drops or in mists. She is not quite sure what she sees when this power decides to saturate her, but it typically comes at the worst time.
Her earth bending is limited, though definitely is in development. She is able to shift tectonic plates subtly, causing minor earthquakes. She is also occasionally able to make rocks whiz through the air, or rattle depending on her focus and effort.
Her air bending can be seen in how she extracts moisture, and to dry it up.
Her fire bending can be seen in her ability to occasionally heat up water, hardly seen at all.
Appearance: She is olive toned, much like many Water Tribes people. Her skin is firm and blemish free. Xue’s has a heart shaped face, inlaid with two heavily lashed green eyes (this is hinting that she is cross-racial and her unknown father is from the Earth Kingdom). Her dark hair is chopped short just beneath her ears. Her lips perpetually aired with an atmosphere of mischief. She is rather short, rising only to about 5’5”, though her structure is feminine, with many curves and built well, making her weight come to about 130 lbs. She stands perpetually with a bad posture.
Due to the harshness of her birth, her umbilical cord was wrapped around her body tightly. This left strange, tentacle like scars across her shoulders and neck. Due to sun bleach, her scars are whiter than the rest of her skin, but are fading with age. Due to water healing, no permanent damage was done and the worst scars that were on her face and neck are healed completely.
History: Lu Xui returned to the Northern Water Tribe after a three year voyage around the Earth Kingdom and to the Southern Water Tribes. His job was, as an ambassador and explorer, bring back information from her travels to further the Northern Water Tribes libraries, and to bring a message of peace to their sister nation. It is also thought that he was in search of the avatar, knowing that the avatar would come back as a water bender, the Northern Water Tribe knew that the avatar did not exist with them.
Sadly, though, no news of the avatar returned with him – though he did come back with a new born baby girl in his arms. Mystery surrounded the enigmatic explorer, for he never revealed who the mother was or where all he had gone in detail. The baby was thought to die due to birth complications, coming home very unhealthy, but miraculously she survived – and was named Xue (The name meaning “Snow” or “Studious”). Lu knew upon Xue's birth that he had given the world the next avatar, knowing all this through a premonition that came to him the night Xue's mystery mother was impregnated.
Lu protected Xue for ten years against the world, wanting her to have a normal childhood. It wasn’t until the little girl was bringing a bucket of water to the house, when she tripped and fell on a step – throwing the water across the floor of the streets. Little Xue, upon looking at the mess she had made, saw something more than just a puddle. Within the rippling metallic surface of the water, she saw spirits – some grotesque, some like other animals, some like people she had known in another life. It was in that reflection she saw a tall, bald man with an arrow on his head, legs crossed in a lotus position and in meditation. His eyes closed and markings where glowing white, though his face and posture were calm and complacent. Staring in wonder, she could not muster the volition to move. It was when the bald man opened his eyes and smiled at her did she scream and run home. Causing such a ruckus in the street, it was not long before Lu figured out what had happened and everyone else did as well. Xue’s avatar training began not long after.
Xue's Father was often gone on ambassador work, leaving Xue alone with her mentors. Xue was forced to spend much of her time training to be a water bending master, and be locked away from everyone else. Due to tensions between nations growing, Xue was never allowed to leave the Northern Water tribe, and be kept as a secret. The young avatar, however, would escape the confines of the icy walls and wander the North Pole to fish, sail or to play. Not liking the people that entrapped her, and bitter toward her confusing “duty” to the Northern water tribes, she found more and more solace in the icebergs than she ever did in her own people. Never did Xue fully understand that she was the next Avatar, never being told the whole truth.
It was when Xue was 14 years old did her father ultimately disappear somewhere in the Earth Kingdom. Lu had followed an identical route for the majority of his career, and was now inexplicably gone. The Northern Water Tribes wondered if this was due to Earth’s multiplying hostility within the last few years or if he was simply shipwrecked. Unsure if politically fueled, nothing was done at first to search for Lu. Xue, now a water bending master and capable sailor, left the North Pole in the night – guided by the moon. It has been five years since she or her father has been seen.
Xue lives her days in the swamps of the Earth Kingdom – where her father’s trail ends. The swamps are vast, and Xue is still looking. Making her new home here until her father’s trail leads her elsewhere – she has come to love the swamps. She is a hermit and ghost within the swamp and no one dares to really look into the strange being that has befallen the swamps. Xue, with each passing day feels the pressure to give up her search for her father and finish her avatar training, but she is afraid. Avatar Xue does not know what war is on the horizon, and is not returning to the real world anytime soon.
