Raikou

An eerie fog swept across the outskirts of Fire Fountain City. The cool evening breeze gently danced through the towering pine trees, which swayed lazily from side to side. A mysterious figure, clad in pitch black robes and a large, dark, flowing hood, which hid his face, leaned against one of the largest trees in the center of the forest. The man, who went by the name of, Raikou, was a master firebender and tactician, as well as the leader of a large, organized group of radicals and extremists. He stood quietly and motionless, staring into the distance, his head filled with plots and schemes. He seemed to be waiting patiently, for either something, or someone.

Not much time passed when the hooded man turned his head slightly, hearing someone approach. “What did you find?” He immediately asked in a deep, commanding tone.

The approaching man bowed respectfully and answered: “His home Sir, the Zelgius Estate, where he lives with his wife and two children…there also appears to be a blind, teenage girl and an ancient, old woman residing on the premises as well, the latter of which seems to be the caretaker, no family resemblance, we suspect she is Water Tribe.”

“What of his wife? Is she a viable target?”

“Sanaki Raiden Zelgius, formerly Sanaki Zelgius. Our sources confirm that she was an assassin, and a skilled one at that. Blind as a wolf-bat, but uses some sort of fire or heat sense to see. Reports say she is retired, but we haven’t confirmed it yet…Is she our target?”

“No, too risky, she will put up too much of a fight…what of the children?”

“Katsuo and Kaede Raiden, his 6 year old twins, a boy and girl, not much else is known about them.”

“The children will be more suitable for what I have in mind...are they ever alone?”

“He occasionally leaves the estate with his wife and leaves the children in the care of the old lady, but she isn’t a threat.”

“I’ll decide whether she is a threat or not! Do you think he would leave his children alone and unprotected, or even the estate for that matter?! Where are his other guards?”

“I…there weren’t any sir…my apologies…”

“Go! Prepare the men! When the General leaves the house again we will strike! The main force will attack through the gate and serve as a distraction, while I slip in with a small elite team, and kidnap the children. Once we have them, Tarek Raiden, Chief Advisor and Strategist to Fire Lord Shula and General of the Fire Nation will become our little pawn.” Raikou said with a chuckle. His associate humbly bowed before leaving the forest to follow his orders.

Tarek Raiden

Tarek’s eyes slowly opened as the sun began to rise on a perfect morning in the Fire Nation. As usual, the first thing he laid eyes on was his beautiful wife Sanaki, who was lying comfortably against him. “Morning Sweetie,” he whispered as he kissed her forehead, he knew she was usually awake by the time he was.

Tarek climbed out of bed and began getting dressed. “We are taking Kozue to visit Naseru in the city today aren’t we?” he asked as he slipped on his shirt. Tarek, now fully dressed, awaited her answer as he walked over the wardrobe and pulled out Sanaki’s kimono, slippers and underwear. All of which he helped her put on like he always did.

When she was fully dressed, he kissed her softly on the lips, took her hand and led her out to the spare room where Kozue slept.

“Rise and shine Ko,” He said happily as he placed his hand on her shoulder. Despite the fact that she was deaf, he still liked talking to her. After 'good-morning' hugs, kisses and greetings, Tarek gestured to her closet and traced the symbol for “Naseru” in her little hand. With a smile he left the room and patiently waited outside for her to get dressed, knowing that Sanaki was probably having a ball helping her get ready.

As he stood waiting in the hall, Tarek noticed Zerviah. “Morning Zerviah,” he said in a happy tone, “Sanaki and I are going out with Kozue today to visit Naseru.” He continued with a smile, “The kids are still sleeping, would you sort them out when they wake up and let them know that we won’t be too long?” He asked kindly.

Soon Sanaki and Kozue emerged from the room, and after a remark about how pretty she looked, Tarek happily led them out of the house and towards Fire Fountain City, where Kozue, Sanaki and Tarek would visit Naseru for a little while. Little did Tarek know about the large force of extremists amassing around the walls of the estate, reading an all-out assault, unaware that they were just an expendable distraction for their leader, Raikou, to sneak in and kidnap his beloved children, Katsuo and Kaede.

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki smiled lovingly. "good morning, lovee." she responded as they pulled themselves out of bed. "and aye... I believe we are. He always likes to check up on how she's doing... he'll be proud."
Sanaki made sure that she was picture-perfect and presentable, which also meant a few minutes straightening her hair. otherwise, she was dressed and ready to go, her leg neatly hidden away in the folds of her kimono.

Kozue was awake and smiling. when Tarek helped her up, she turned to him excitedly.
"Dau-wuh-ekk!" she hugged him happily. Sanaki, with her keen hearing, had heard many accents, strong and slurred, in her life, and her eyes widened.
"Lovee... she just said your name!" she exclaimed. It even excited her to know that Kozue was finally learning how to properly talk, but it did make her wonder how she was learning it.

Either way, the next 15 or 20 minutes were spent getting Kozue dressed, and after Sanaki emerged with the young woman, now 19, she cold completely pass off as a regal noblewoman. She was dressed in a very ornate dress with billowing sleeves skirts, in dazzling shades of red, black, and gold. Her hair, which was normally down, had been done up slightly elaborately, though like in Sanaki's case, most of it hung down. Sanaki had helped her with some lipstick and some eyeshadow, but not enough to make her look 'fake'. It was a dark red color to contrast her pale skin and glazed eyes. She also had added a bit of blush to Kozue's cheeks, for, unlike Kaede and Sanaki, who could (and frequently did) blush naturally, Kozue seemed to be difficult to shake in that regard.

While this was all happening and Zerviah crossed Tarek's path, she paused to listen to him and then nodded.
"Of course," She agreed, "I will not let anything happen to the under my care. Travel safely... and make sure Kozue has a good time." she cackled. She had developed quite a bond with the little girl, and loved her deeply.

As they left, (Zerviah planting a little kiss on Kozue's cheek), Zerviah went back to her morning business, also keeping an alert ear not just for noises, but also for the children, to see when they would wake up.

Raikou

Once Tarek and Sanaki were out of sight, Raikou gave his men the signal. Around fifty of his men, benders and non-benders from all four nations began marching through the front gates of the estate toward the house. They were all dressed in the same way, wearing pitch black outfits which covered their entire bodies, and were easy to move in and fight in. Their eyes were the only parts of their bodies which were visible, and the only detail on the uniform was a small symbol of a red dragon, situated on each man’s right shoulder.

The group of extremists suddenly stopped when the house was about a hundred meters away, and a team of earthbenders started pulling up large rocks from the ground and began launching them towards the house, literally bombarding it. Luckily, these men were far from master earthbenders and they didn’t do much damage to the strong walls of the Zelgius estate.

Katsuo almost fell out of his bed when the extremist earthbenders started their bombardment of the mansion. He looked around in surprise, his little heart beating rapidly, as the whole house shook. It was loud and scary. He jumped out of bed, still in his pajamas and ran next door to Kaede’s room, finding her awake too. “Kaede!” he shouted as he ran up to her and grabbed her little hand, “come quick!” he said as he began running to their parents room. Tarek had told them that if anything ever happened, they were to run to the master bedroom, lock the door and hide, and that’s just what Katsuo did. He shut the door as they entered and locked it. “Where’s mommy and daddy!?” he asked as he pulled Kaede to the foot of the bed and crouched down with her, holding her tightly, as the house continued to shake.

As the men started their attack on the house, Raikou and his two best men, who had secretly slipped into the estate over a wall, climbed up onto the balcony of Tarek and Sanaki’s bedroom. He quietly picked the lock to the door and slowly opened it, peeking inside. He had to duck as a small fireball rocketed towards his face. “Who are you!?” came a little voice from inside the room. Raikou grinned and chuckled, “What luck! They are in here!” he whispered to his men. He kicked the door open and marched towards the kids, Katsuo stood up, still holding his sister’s hand. “Go away!” he shouted as he shot a stream of flame out of his hands towards the attacker. Raikou just laughed and walked through the flame, bending it around him. The children were skilled for their age, but no match at all against a master firebender. He grabbed Katsuo and threw him out of the way before grabbing Kaede, covering her mouth, so she wouldn't make a noise. Katsuo felt a surge of anger pulse through his little body, but one of the other men grabbed him before he could do anything, not that it would have helped much if he did. He squirmed violently. “Let me go!” he shouted, kicking violently and even trying to bite his kidnapper.

Raikou, who was struggling with Kaede himself, snarled: “Shut him up!”
The man nodded and quickly gagged and tied up Katsuo, before throwing him over his shoulder. Raikou did the same thing with Kaede. “These two are going to be a handful,” Raikou said as Katsuo continued to squirm violently letting out a flurry of angry, “MMMM’s!”
The group of men proceeded to leave the room, climbing down the balcony and ready to escape with the children. "Quickly! To the wall" Raikou roared to his men, "we aren't home free yet!"

Zerviah Shizuka Foxx

Kaede unquestioningly followed her brother into the master bedroom, helping him bolt the door. in the meantime, however, it was not to say that the house was without defenses.

when the first rock hit, Zerviah was instantly alarmed, and she made her way outside with surprising speed for a supercentenarian woman of so many years. the moment she saw that they were under attack, she launched powerful attacks of her own, bringing up massive swathes of water and blocks of ice that she began powerfully flinging towards the enemy benders. Whether or not this woman was a threat or not was still to be determined.

Within a few minutes as they stormed the house, they found out the hard way that Zerviah was not only a threat, but that her danger level was extremely high. Using powerful bursts of waterbending, she formed a giant ice sculpture about 15-20 feet in height. It was fully maneuverable, and Zerviah exploited this by jumping up onto its shoulder. as the hordes of extremists tried to swarm the door, she stood stubbornly in front of it, beating them down with her giant ice "machine". she would occasionally pull shards out of the machine and fling them at her assailants as ice spikes, many of which made their mark.

Kaede had her brother's back the whole time for the few minutes where they were able to resist the attack. However, their tiny size and lack of skill compared to these great masters was enough that they were overpowered. with tiny shrieks and attempts to kick, claw, and bite at her assailants, Kaede was also captured.

As the hordes began to diminish in size, Zerviah's motherly instinct kicked in, and she felt inspired to check the kids. Luckily for her she did, because they had swarmed the house. Luckily they were not doing much damage--they were looking for someone. Zerviah was there to make sure that they did not succeed. Using powerful waterbending techniques and martial arts, some of which involved the walking stick she always carried, Zerviah began laying down some long, merciless beatdowns on each and every intruder she crossed paths with, until she finally saw it. There, fleeing across the wall, was the one that had to be the leader of this whole operation, and with him and his two best men were Kaede and Katsuo.

An unusual fire lit up Zerviah's eyes that moment, and it almost looked like they glowed. It was a pity that it was a new moon at the time... if it had been full, she would have sent them straight to hell and back three times over.
However, right as she sent a deadly powerful attack his way, she got swarmed. With a vicious roar that could have made a Lion-Tiger blush, Zerviah fought fiercely through them, leaving none alive. However, this came at a price--by the time she had exterminated them, her real targets had escaped.

Heaving an exasperated sigh, Zerviah threw herself into a sitting position, utterly in some form of despair. She could not simply go running after them. For one thing, her old body was just not quite up to the same sort of snuff that it was 90 years ago when she was in her prime.
This would have to be the grim report that she would bring back to Sanaki and Tarek. She swore afterwards that she would also go hunting for them, but first, it was worth at least explaining to the parents what had happened. They needed the story and the truth.

Raikou

Raikou and his two accomplices had no trouble getting to the wall of estate with the two bound up children. They swiftly climbed over and Raikou glanced back over his shoulder, only to find his eyes meet those of Zerviah. He stared for a moment watching as Zerviah bolted forward, and smirk ran across his face as his men swarmed her. “Should we sound a retreat?” asked one of his accomplices.

“No, let them burn the house to the ground or die trying.” He replied without a second thought, “Now let’s move, and I want no one hurting the children, they are only good for blackmail if they are alive and in one piece!” he barked as he began heading for their secret hideout with the two captured children.

Tarek Raiden

Tarek sighed happily as he led Sanaki and Kozue back to the estate. He was glad to see his old friend Naseru again and could hardly believe that little blind and deaf Kozue, whom the family had been looking after for a couple of months, had begun to speak. Of course she was still learning and was far from fluent, but it was a start. Credit for this went completely to Zerviah, and Tarek was very curious as to how she had managed to teach Kozue, who could neither see, nor hear. In fact he planned on asking her when they got home.

“Home at last,” Tarek smiled as they came to the front gate, and although he did find it a little strange that it was standing open, he didn’t give it much thought. The road up to the house was quite long and Tarek was gently rubbing Sanaki’s hand as he held it in his and walked on. The peaceful bliss he had been feeling all morning suddenly vanished as the house came into view. The scene before Tarek completely shocked him. There were dead bodies lying all around, as well as huge rocks used by the earthbenders to bombard the house, which looked quite badly damaged, especially the roof.

Tarek’s eyes darted back and forth and his heart sank. Without uttering a word he ran forwards, hands at the ready, knowing that Sanaki wouldn’t be far behind him. He burst into the house, with his hands raised and at the ready, but there was nothing but dead bodies lying around in awkward positions and the entire house was silent. “Katsuo! Kaede!” he shouted as he ran to the children’s rooms, to his dismay, he found nothing. He then ran to the master bedroom, knowing that they probably went to hide in there.

He found the door to the master bedroom locked from the inside and he wasted no time in kicking tit down. He ran into the room looking frantically for his children; his eyes instantly noticed the little marks where the kid’s fire blasts had hit the walls and ceiling, but unfortunately, there was no signs of them anywhere. “No…” he whispered in despair, as he saw the balcony door had been forced open and he realized what had happened. He turned back to Sanaki with a frown, tears running down his cheek as he slowly opened his mouth. “Sanaki…” he muttered, hardly able to speak at all, with his emotions in such turmoil, he felt intense anger, confusion, grief and sorrow, all at the same time.

His knees felt like they could just give in and he wasn’t sure what to do. He just pulled Sanaki close and hugged her tightly; wishing it was a dream that he could just wake up from. As he held her, his thoughts became a little clearer and he started piecing together what must have happened. “Zerviah!” he said loudly as he realised that she was the one who had killed the attackers. “Where is Zerviah?!”

He ran out and began looking for her, which wasn’t too difficult seeing as how he just needed to follow the trail of dead bodies. He found her sitting near the wall which acted as the boundary of the estate. He was so glad to see her. “Zerviah!? Are you alright? What happened? Kaede and Katsuo!?” he shouted as he ran towards her and crouched down besides her, checking to see if she was fine.

Zerviah Shizuka Foxx

"NO!" Zerviah roared, and given the nature and tone of her voice, it almost sounded intimidating. She fought fiercely to try and break through the crowds, but there were just too many of them, and even Zerviah had a little trouble when it was at least 50 to 1.
However, there were also no survivors. Even at 116, Zerviah was a hardened general, healer, warrior, hunter, and mother of 9. She had seen much, done much, and conquered great amounts. However, this was chalked up in her books as a dismal failure--letting the children of the house she was supposed to protect--be taken from right under her nose.

*****************************************
When Tarek and Sanaki arrived, Zerviah was still kneeling right where she had been when she had slain the last of the vandals. her efficiency in doing this had kept most of the house unharmed.
"They..." she gritted her teeth, almost looking like she was about to sob, but being the tough old broad that she was, she held herself together, and managed to explain everything that had happened, and how Kaede and Katsuo had been taken.

Sanaki's happiness was unfortunately short-lived. In fact, it seemed that even Kozue was aware that something had happened, fro her face sunk and her eyes widened as they approached the house. She could tell that something was not right, and Sanaki coon picked up on it too.
Perhaps she was being paranoid? no, she would keep walking for now.
She was certainly not being paranoid. signs of death and carnage were strewn over the house and grounds.
instantly, her screams of her children's names filled the air as she frantically scampered this way and that through the house trying to find them. sooner or later, she met back up with Tarek at the master bedroom and she knew what had happened. Throwing her arms around Tarek, she burst into tears, sobbing loudly. she was devastated.

When Tarek raced out to find Zerviah, Sanaki couldn't even follow. she was on her knees in the master bedroom, still sobbing, almost uncontrollably.

Tarek Raiden

As Sanaki threw her arms around Tarek and started sobbing, Tarek felt as if his heart had been ripped out. He clenched her tightly in his arms, and couldn’t stop tears from pouring down his cheeks as well. He wept as what really happened started sinking in, he realised that his precious children, his entire world, had gone missing. He just became even more emotional as he realised that he didn’t know if they were dead or hurt or even what manner of men had taken them and what their intentions were.

Tarek realised, after a while, that Zerviah was the one who must have killed the intruders, and that she could still be alive, he just had to run out to find her. He turned when he realised Sanaki wasn’t following, and frowned as he saw that she had dropped to her knees, sobbing. He tried to speak, but no words would come out, as if words would do anything to console her. He reluctantly left Sanaki alone and went to find Zerviah, he knew that every second counted, and that Zerviah must have known more than he presently did, which was next to nothing.

Tarek found her, kneeling next to what looked like the last of the attackers, who were stupid enough to try and challenge Zerviah. He listened attentively as she explained what had happened; even the slightest clue might have helped them find the kids. “So they took them alive!? Oh thank the spirits,” he said closing his eyes with relief, “did you notice anything, any specific details?” he asked desperately. He didn’t blame her at all for what had happened; he knew she would never purposely let anything happen to the kids. All he was concerned with now was catching the kidnapper, and killing him.

Raikou

Raikou and his men finally arrived at their underground hideout, with the two kidnapped children. “Throw the brats into their new living quarters, for the foreseeable future!” he demanded, “and don’t any of you dare harm a single hair on their heads! They are only good alive!
The guards quickly carried out their orders, untying the twins and tossing them into a little room. It was comfy enough, with a few toys, two clean beds, a little table but not much else. The room only had one door and there were no windows whatsoever.

As soon as the kids were thrown in, the guards shut the door. Katsuo instantly sprang up and ran over to Kaede’s side, holding her little arm with his little hands. “Kaede! Are you okay!?” he asked worryingly, shaking her a little.

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki did little else but sob passionately for the time being. her whole world had just been ripped from her, and to say that it had an emotional impact on her would be an enormous understatement. However, Sanaki was not the one to cry very often, which meant that she she did, she was letting it all out, such as in this case.
However, it also meant that she would get over the crying part sooner or later, and would do whatever she could in her power to rectify the problem. Sanaki's own keenness and determination had been what had freed her from her own familial prison, afterall. Slowly, she brought herself to her feet, wiping her eyes once more. They may not have worked, but they still emitted tears, and Sanaki's normally beautiful pale face was now a shade of pink and red. She slowly stepped out of the room and soon met back up with Tarek, standing behind him as he spoke to Zerviah.

"Aye, they took them alive." Zerviah grumbled. "There were three that were too strong for me, or rather, too clever. They took the kids and then these goons swarmed me." she motioned all around her. She proceeded to explain any details she caught of the kidnapper and his two best men, explaining in the best detail she could muster, of anything and everything that might be able to distinguish them.
"I am sorry that I have failed." she lowered her head, leaning against her staff that she usually carried. "there was nothing I could do, but I shall take my punishment accordingly."
It had been a long time since Zerviah could actually say that she failed something, and for her to do so on something like this, was something that she could not exactly live down just yet. Perhaps she would talk with Kozue a bit afterwards to try and get her head back on straight.

Kaede Zelgius Raiden

Kaede's reflexes made her like a cat when she was thrown into the room, and she flipped through the air and landed on her feet, one hand touching the floor. She was not about to jump out and strike, for she was certainly not strong enough, and she was tiny, and so despite being swift for her age, she knew that she wouldn't be able to race through the door in the split-second while it was still open. besides, she wouldn't go anywhere unless she knew Katsuo was right beside her--she was not scared, but she would also never leave him behind. Ever.

she let herself fall onto her knees where she emitted a tiny sigh of defeat.
"yeah..." she turned to him, "I'm okie. how about you?"
Her voice was low and almost monotonous, like the happiness had been sucked from it. She was scared and in an unknown place far away from home, so she had all rights to be such.

Tarek Raiden

Tarek listened carefully, mentally imprinting her description of the men in his head. Unfortunately, it rang no bells; he had no idea who was responsible. He knew however, that they were organized, well-trained, well-equipped and obviously well-informed. It made no difference to him though, he would find them if it was the last thing he did.

Tarek frowned and placed a hand on Zerviah’s shoulder. “What? No Zerviah, you defended our home, there was nothing you could have done. They must have planned this for weeks.” He said turning his head to find Sanaki approaching. “Sanaki and I will go after them, I have the resources to track down this group,” he continued, pausing momentarily as his eyes caught a glimpse of the red dragon symbols on the dead men’s uniforms, “we will need to head for the capital first, and I need you here Zerviah. We can’t leave Kozue alone, and the kidnappers will probably send demands soon. If no one is here to respond to them...I…I don’t even want to think about it.”

He held out his arms for Sanaki who was standing silently behind them, her face pink from the crying. “Come here sweetie,” he said in a sad voice, “we…we are going to find them okay, I promise,” he reassured her. He felt utter and complete despair himself. It felt as if his heart was torn out and he had to force himself to not just break down and sob, he knew he had to keep a level head if they were to have any hope of finding the kids, for his and Sanaki’s sake. “Sanaki,” he said in a serious tone, “You are going to have to get your swords out…”

Katsuo Zelgius Raiden

“I’m fine,” he whispered, happy to hear that his sister was alright. All of a sudden his face changed, contorted with anger and frustration. He jumped up, running towards the door. “LET US OUT!” he demanded as his little fists pounded away on the metal door in a fit of rage, shooting little fireblasts everywhere. He was really scared just like Kaede, but he had a much different way of showing it.

“AAAAHHH!” he shouted, as he continued. He was really mad, upset and scared, and probably wasn’t going to calm down anytime soon. Not that he had a bad temper; his reasons for losing it were understandably justified, he had been kidnapped, and taken from his family. He was just glad his sister was with him. The only people who would be able to calm him down when he was like this were Tarek, Sanaki and Kaede.

Zerviah Shizuka Foxx

Zerviah nodded. "I will keep Kozue and the estate safe. Besides... someone needs to clean all this shit up. last thing we want are rotting corpses dragging their stench across this beautiful property. I wish you the best of luck on your journey, and hope that you have utmost safety. Send me a messenger hawk if you need anything... and please let me know now as well. There is a lot for us all to do--you and Sanaki as you find your children, and me as I repair the damages. I have lived many long years, Tarek. I assure you that my loyalty will not falter now, just as it didn't in the Water Tribe's darkest hours... I thank you for your kindness." she bowed respectfully.

Sanaki nodded slowly, understanding the magnitude of the situation.
"I know... it's just..."
she paused. "I am at a loss for words..."
she had stopped sobbing, but her face was red, and she was angry. she did not let it show, and her anger was certainly not about to be directed at anyone in the house, but it was there. She was not going to stop till her children were safe or till she was killed.

"I know." she acknowledged. "and I am not afraid to bring them out for a thing like this. I suppose I should show you my armory once again..."
she walked towards her basement, swapping an old set of keys on her way down. she opened the door to a room full of weapons. she had told Tarek of this room, and she occasionally pulled weapons out from here to train or to demonstrate things to the children, but this time, she took two of her favorite dragon-headed blades, sheaths and all, and attached them to her waist. she also grabbed several small throwing knives on a small belt, strapping them to her upper right thigh. with a few deft moves her kimono covered her leg completely, and would remain that way till she changed that.

"I am ready." she nodded.

Kaede Zelgius Raiden

Kaede was not as loud as Katsuo, and so his little voice nearly drowned hers out. it wasn't what she would have done, but she and her brother were supportive of each other, especially in scary times like these. Whatever happened, she was determined that she was not going to let him out of her sight.

"Katsuo..." she said softly, "we... um... whatever happens... we're gunna stay together, right? we can't let them take us apart. we just can't!"
she seemed very insistant upon the idea, and knew that he would be too. she just wanted to make sure.

Tarek Raiden

Tarek gave Zerviah an understanding nod. “Thank you,” he whispered, before following Sanaki down into the armory. He knew about it for long time, but it was part of Sanaki’s old life and he didn't go down there that often. He was quite amazed at the amount and variety of weapons she had stored away from her days as an assassin. Sanaki quickly started getting ready, and Tarek did as well, strapping his light-weight piece of metallic plate armor over his chest and right shoulder, and grabbing his spear.

He looked at Sanaki as they both finished. His face looked different than normal, it was pale and he looked like someone who hadn’t slept in days, the loss of the kids was really starting to get to him. “We better get moving then.” He said softly as he walked out of the room, heading for where he kept his Lion Tiger saddled up.

He quickly saddled up a Lion Tiger and climbed on, offering a hand to pull Sanaki up behind him. He waited until she was safely seated behind him before he flicked the reigns and kicked the creature’s sides, “Hold on tight!” he said as the Lion Tiger let out a roar and bolted out onto the road, galloping in the direction of the capital.

After the estate was out of sight, Tarek looked behind him, “Sanaki…we didn’t really get a chance to talk back there…are…are you alright?” he asked in a compassionate voice. Of course, he wasn’t alright himself, he felt unbelievably helpless at the moment, not knowing anything about what really happened. Despite this, he felt like he had to check up on Sanaki, he loved her dearly and needed to know for himself if she was alright or not.

Katsuo Zelgius Raiden

Katsuo stopped his banging and turned towards his sister when she spoke, his face instantly calming down. “Yeah…” he said softly, walking over to her and giving her a warm little hug, “we won’t let each other out of our sights.” He said sincerely. He wasn’t a very affectionate boy, but he loved Kaede with all his heart and he knew how she cared for hugs and such. Besides, he was scared and the little hug did make him feel better. “Don’t worry Kaede, I am sure that Daddy and Mommy are looking for us right now…” he assured her.

The next instant, one of the men that accompanied Raikou when he captured the kids walked in. The man was kind of scrawny in comparison with the other two, but had a scary look in his face and a strange air about him that gave Katsuo the chills. Even though he was only six, Katsuo could tell that this man reveled in violence and the despair of others. “Oh no, I wouldn’t count on that,” the man cackled, “You two are going to stay here for the rest of your pathetic lives!”

He grabbed Kaede by her arm and pulled her close, staring at her with a horrible and vile look on his face as he ripped off the right sleeve of her pyjamas top. At that moment, Kartsuo absolutely lost it. He shouted in anger as he ran up to the man and frantically started punching him with his little fists. “Get away from her!” he demanded, his voice screeching. The man just laughed and gave Katsuo an incredibly hard slap against the side of his face.

Katsuo tumbled backwards and fell on his back, holding the side of his head and crying softly as the man walked up to him and ripped off the right sleeve of his pyjamas top too. “Thank you for these, we are sending them to Daddy and Mommy, and then Daddy will do anything we tell him to!” The man cackled as he walked out of the room and slammed the door.

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki nodded slowly. she did not mind this room at all; she just did not like needing to use it. However, there were times when what needed to be done, had to be done, and this was one of those times. She had no regrets, and taking another life was not something that she was above.

Sanaki took Tarek's hand when he extended it to help her up onto the Lion-Tiger. "yes... yes we should."
Sanaki was mostly consuming herself with anger, but not to the point where she would lose rationality. all she knew was that her children, her little angels who were more or less the center of her life, had been displaced from their proper home, and Sanaki was going to go out and rectify that.
she held on tightly as Tarek instructed her, and soon they were off. even with the way she was sitting, her dress still covered her legs fully. that strap of knives on her thigh was supposed to remain a secret.

She was quiet, simply for a loss of words. "I... am okay..." she confessed, "but only as 'okay' as someone can be who has had their children taken from their home. so in reality... no... I am not okay, nor will I be until they are safely back in our arms."
She knew that he would understand that she was certainly not mad at him at all.

Kaede whimpered and hugged Katsuo softly, almost choking on whatever words she had intended to say. as a result, nothing came out.
she lost it, however, after the scrawny man came in and ripped her clothes. seeing him hit Katsuo was even worse. nearly traumatized, and now totally at a loss for words, she didn't say anything, but instead curled up into a little ball and just started crying.

Tarek Raiden

"I... am okay..." Sanaki confessed, "but only as 'okay' as someone can be who has had their children taken from their home, so in reality... no... I am not okay, nor will I be until they are safely back in our arms." Tarek looked ahead as she said this, and placed his hand softly on her knee, “I know…” he whispered. He decided not to say any more on the subject, at least not until they knew more.

****************************************

Tarek and Sanaki soon arrived at the Fire Nation Capital; the journey was faster than it had ever taken Tarek before, and the lion-tiger nearly collapsed from running so far, so fast, and without stopping at all. As they got up to the Royal Palace and Tarek hopped off of the panting lion-tiger before grabbing Sanaki by the waist and lifting her up off of the beast as well. “Give him some water!” Tarek said to the stable boy who he handed the reins, “and have another one ready for me!”

Tarek began running up the steps that lead to the entrance of the palace, clearing three steps at a time with each stride. He would normally have taken Sanaki’s hand, but he was in a hurry, besides Sanaki wouldn’t be much help in helping him search through his files for one that would give them a clue as to who the kidnappers were. She knew where his office was and he knew she would meet him there.

He sprinted into his office and started frantically tearing through files, searching for the one he had seen which illustrated the strange dragon symbol that the men had on their uniforms. It took a while but eventually he held a file up, “this is it!” he said opening it. He began scanning through its contents and his face slowly started looking more and more distressed as he read it.

Katsuo Zelgius Raiden

Katsuo was lying on the floor crying softly, his little face stinging where the man had struck him. He saw Kaede curl up into a little ball and begin to cry. He instantly started crawling up to her, sniffling quietly, and with his cheeks full of little tears.

He curled up beside her and let his arms gently wrap around her, his little hands clenching her clothes tightly as he hugged her warmly and pulled her close, sniffling continually. He couldn’t talk right now; he was too scared and choked up, and all he could think about was the nasty man’s cold words. He dreaded the thought of not seeing his daddy and mommy again, and he just wanted to go home.

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

once they reached the Fire Nation Capital, Sanaki was still quiet. Part of it was from speechlessness, the other part was simply from a lack of things to say without more information on who had caused this great tragedy to befall them. Whatever the case, Sanaki would not sleep comfortably until they were home.
She knew that she would not be much help to Tarek inside because she could not read, but she followed him anyways so that she could be there for the revelation, whatever that might have been. As fast as Tarek was, Sanaki was nimble, and she leapt from place to place behind him, easily keeping up.

"What?" She exclaimed frantically, ":What did you find? who did it? where are they? what do they want?"
she was not sure how many of those answers Tarek had, but she didn't care either. these were her children--she had the right to be a bit frantic about any information that could lead her to them.

Kaede Zelgius Raiden

Kaede hugged Katsuo and cried right along with him. she was scared and worried about what she had heard. What if she never saw her mommy and daddy again? how terrible would that be, to be trapped in here and never see their shining faces--to see Zerviah, Kozue, Tarek, Sanaki... the flowers... oh, the flowers! how would she ever live without them either?
This was no fun. Kaede felt so scared and so helpless with her lack of being able to do anything about her plight.

Tarek Raiden

Tarek had no idea which of Sanaki’s questions to answer first, and he had no idea how to tell her what he had just discovered. He looked up at her with a grim face, knowing that no matter how terrible the news was, that she had to know. “They…they were taken by a criminal group…terrorists, by all accounts,” he started slowly, “we have known about their organization for a while, but have been unable to track any of their movements. They are organized, well-equipped, and very well-trained; they leave almost no evidence and we have practically no leads on their whereabouts. They have proven to be very elusive and nigh untouchable.”

Tarek slumped back into his chair and buried his face into his hands as a feeling of hopelessness began to overwhelm him. “I…I’m sorry Sanaki…” he said softly, “…I thought we’d find answers…but now I have no idea what to do…” he continued with tears welling up in his eyes. He was sure they would find something, sure that they would get a lead, it’s what kept him going and kept his head level until now. Understandably, finding nothing had started to make Tarek unravel as the reality of the situation started hitting him, and started hitting him hard.

Katsuo Zelgius Raiden

Katsuo sat with his sister for a long while; they were both scared and very upset, as was to be expected from two children who were separated from their very loving family. Eventually Katsuo started recovering and he sat up a little. He sniffed loudly as he brought his one remaining sleeve up to Kaede’s eyes, softly wiping off her tears.

At that moment the door opened and a guard set a tray of food down on the ground before stepping back out of the room and locking the door. Katsuo cautiously crawled over to the tray, which had a bowl of soup and a little loaf of bread on it. He slowly picked it up and carried it over to Kaede, he knew she was probably just as hungry as he was seeing as they hadn’t eaten all day. Katsuo broke off a large piece of the bread and held it out for Kaede, while he kept the smaller piece. “Don’t worry Kaede,” he whispered, “I am sure that mean man was lying, daddy and mommy would never listen to them!”

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki paused for a moment. "Do you know their names? I might know of them. After all... I am organized, well-equipped, and very well-trained. I never left evidence of my kills, even in my own estate. I was elusive and nigh untouchable. I wasn't called "The Shadow Phoenix" just because I looked pretty... it was because I was smart; cunning, powerful, and legendarily elusive. It was the secret to my success."
Normally Sanaki was not fond of bringing up her past, but there were some things that would not die in her, and she wished to keep them alive for reasons such as this.

she put her hand on Tarek's shoulders. "what you have told me whittles down the number of possibilities significantly. everything--anything--you might know about them, tell me. we might have something to work off of if you do."

Kaede Zelgius Raiden

Kaede sobbed quietly, but would have been doing so much louder if she had been separated from Katsuo. in fact, she probably wouldn't have eaten or slept, and instead would have just deteriorated and died alone. She knew that she would fight to her little death if they tried to separate the two of them. Katsuo was all that was keeping Kaede together right now, so to speak.

Kaede nodded. "I know... they will definitely come. you know mommy... when she wants to do something, she won't stop till its done... and you remember what daddy said, right? we are the most important things in their lives, and they would never stop if anything bad happened to us..."
This was certainly not a vain comment as much as it was a true and reassuring one. The faith they had in Tarek and Sanaki was a reassurance to them, and would have even been further strengthened if they knew that their parents were on their way out to look for them right now.

Tarek Raiden

Tarek slowly looked up at Sanaki, he knew about her past, knew who she was before they had met. It didn’t really bother him; he loved her for who she was, regardless of her dark past. He knew she had changed, and that having a family had helped her heal some of her own childhood wounds. Of course he knew she could still fight, and that she still had contacts and resources. “I don’t know their names. All we know is that they go by the symbol of the red dragon, other than that, they are extremely secretive.” He explained in a disheartened voice.

However, her next words did manage to spark a ray of hope within Tarek again. “No, I know nothing more, but Sanaki!” he said standing up and holding her arms, “Your old contacts, do you know of anyone who might know who they are?” He asked desperately, hoping that she might know of someone who could lead them to the kidnappers.

Katsuo nodded. “Daddy and Mommy are the best! I bet they are looking for us right now!” he said with a confident smile, feeling hopeful again thanks to Kaede’s words. He held up the little loaf of bread again for her, insisting that she eat. He would not touch his own share of the food until he saw Kaede begin eating.

He began looking around the room they were in. They each had a little mattress and blanket, a little table with two small chairs, and a little box of old, weathered toys. The rest of the room was completely empty, no windows or openings of any kind apart from the large metal door that they were thrown in. “I…I…don’t think we should wait though,” he whispered, “Maybe… we can escape?” he continued softly. He was always a daring child and would always come with little plans. However this time, his sister would have to be on board, for he would never leave her behind.

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki would have laughed if she was not distraught. "sweetheart, I made concerted efforts to break contact with any of said people. However, I think I know of at the very least, a lead that we could go to. they're based in the mountains far away from Caldera City. While that may narrow it down significantly, it would still take months to scour those mountains in their entirety. I believe it's somewhere around Shu Jing, but even then, that does not whittle it down enough. we need to find someone who knows the area better, and get to them as swiftly as possible."

Nothing was going to stand between her and her children, and the longer she waited, the more danger she felt her little angels were in.

Kaede smiled. "yeah... I bet they know exactly where we are..."
she began eating so that Katsuo would eat too. as she did, she glanced around the room to see what was in it, taking in the same things that Katsuo did.

Kaede lowered her voice to a whisper. "we definitely shouldn't' wait... but we should wait for the right time, because we need to make sure we can get away... if they catch us trying to escape, they will probably hurt us..."
It was clear that Kaede was completely in on the idea though. However, she was always a little girl to play it safe, and while she usually played by the rules, these were some that she wanted to break. She just felt that they needed an opportune moment.

Tarek Raiden

Tarek nodded softly at Sanaki’s words, he knew she had tried to break away from her past, but that didn’t mean that the people she knew had just vanished from existence. He was sure that one of her old contacts would know something; it was just a matter of finding them again. At least, he truly hoped this was the case, if not he would have to turn to his friend, spymaster Kako for help, but this was not something he wanted to drag too many people into.

As Sanaki revealed that she might know of someone who could help, Tarek brought her in and embraced her tightly. “It’s a start and even if it gives us the smallest chance of finding the kids, I’m willing to go the ends of the earth to find it.” He said in a hopeful voice. He stepped back after a few moments and with a soft reassuring smile, he reached out and took her hand gently in his. Without waiting another moment, he led her right back out of the palace. As instructed, the stable boy had another lion-tiger ready and Tarek quickly hopped on, easily pulling Sanaki up behind him again, she was light and nimble. With a sharp quick to its sides, the lion-tiger quickly reared up and began running down the road that led out of the capital. Luckily, Tarek knew the way to Shu Jing like the back of his hand. He had been there many times before, doing research and visiting his firebending student Varsha. It was also where he had met Shula so many years before, and became a Fire Nation General as well as her chief advisor and strategist. Now it was where he hoped he would find some useful information that would lead him to his kids, and perhaps even the spineless rat-bastard who had taken them.

Katsuo happily started eating when Kaede did, he was absolutely starving. He sat and listened to what she had to say with his little cheeks stuffed full of food, swallowing large chunks of the bread after only a few quick, ravenous chews.

A grin crept along Katsuo’s little face as she let him know that she agreed, and that they needed to escape. He swallowed the remaining bread stuffed in his cheeks before answering her. “Yeah, don’t worry, we’ll be careful Kaedey!” he reassured her, “I dunno how we going to do it yet…so just be ready kay?” he asked putting his little hands on her shoulders and looking up into her eyes, waiting for a definite answer. His little mind had already begun working on a plan.

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki nodded. "and now you know my thought process, sweetheart." she said quietly. It may not be much, but it is more than we have at the moment, so it amounts to something."

there was a slight piece of comfort that flowed through Sanaki's mind as Tarek took her hand, but it would not be full until her children were safely back in her arms. Still... solace was appreciated where it was available, and so Sanaki said nothing. she followed him out, easily hopping up onto the Lion-Tiger with Tarek's help, and soon they were off towards Shu-Jing. Part of Sanaki wondered if Varsha knew anything about these goons, but she figured that if they were elusive enough to evade her, that they would be elusive enough to evade Varsha's watchful eye.

Shu Jing was such a beautiful place, and it was almost a shame that they were here on less-than-savory business as opposed to visiting here for pleasure or whatever else. Alas, it seemed that it was not meant to be...

Kaede nodded as they gobbled up the food, and she began looking around.
"got it." she indicated, putting her hands on her shoulders. "let me know how I can help!"
She was the much more observant one, and tended to think things through a bit more than Katsuo would anyways. She was therefore less risk-taking, but her plans tended to work a bit better because they were well-thought out. She was already doing what her mother had taught her, which was also the technique of a swarthy waterbending Pirate Queen--"Look around you, and anything that you think you can use to your advantage... use."

Tarek Raiden

As Tarek and Sanaki rode towards Shu Jing he reflected on all that had happened. He desperately tried to think of anything else that might help track down his two darling children, or help find the men who had kidnapped them. Sanaki’s lead, however, was still probably the best hope they had on finding them, and he planned on finding them no matter what.

Tarek softly rubbed Sanaki’s arms, which were tightly wrapped around his chest, as they rode on. He knew that they were both upset and worried, and he just wanted to let her know that he was there for her. He wanted to reassure her and give her some small degree of comfort. Not because he thought she needed it; after all, if anyone in the world could track down the kids and rescue them, it was Tarek and Sanaki. He just felt that some reassurance went a long way, and that even a little comforting gesture could make a big difference, even though it would never completely the same until the matter was completely resolved and the kids were safely back in their arms.

*********************************

After a long and tiring journey, Tarek and Sanaki finally arrived at the outskirts of Shu Jing. Tarek hopped off the Lion Tiger and tied it up in the woods just outside of town before gently grabbing Sanaki by the waist and lifting her off. “Well sweetie, we're here,” he said as he gently placed her on the ground and looked around, “I’ll follow your lead on this,” he continued, not knowing where they were going or what they were doing, “let’s go find our kids.”

Katsuo Zelgius Raiden

“I will!” said Katsuo with a reassuring smile. He knew that he didn’t always think his plans through, which is why he would always tell them to Kaede first. Usually she would point out any flaws in them and he would go ahead and do them anyway, but this time was different. He knew that he couldn’t be his usual daring self when both his and his sister’s lives were at stake.

That being said, Katsuo was a very intelligent child, and was especially skilled at thinking on his feet and improvising. He thrived in stressful situations, always taking charge and adapting quickly to his surroundings. “Remember how daddy taught us how to wait for the right moment to strike?” he asked Kaede, “I think that’s what we must do here,” he whispered, “Unless you want us to try something else?”

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki felt a bit of reassurance, although like last time, it was a temporary thing that would only be fully cured by her children returning to her. Sanaki's arms were covered by her sleeves, which were silky given what she was wearing. still... she loved Tarek's touch even when she was in a state of distress.
Arriving at Shu Jing gave her a small bit of comfort, but she knew that their quest had only begun.

"I honestly don't know where they'd be, other than perhaps in the shadier outskirts of the place. I think as much as I hate admitting it, we would probably find him at a tavern. don't let me drink anything there!"
she knew she was a lightweight and would be trashed in seconds. either way, she headed for one of the taverns outside of town, her hand in Tarek's.

Kaede Zelgius Raiden

Kaede nodded in agreement. "This is definitely a time when we need to wait for the perfect moment to strike." she noted, "if we don't wait for the right moment... well, it will probably end really really bad for us if it goes wrong. we have to get it right the first time."

she hugged him, wanting to remind herself that they were together, and wanting to remidnd him that she was not leaving his side.

Tarek Raiden

"I honestly don't know where they'd be, other than perhaps in the shadier outskirts of the place. I think as much as I hate admitting it, we would probably find him at a tavern. don't let me drink anything there!" replied Sanaki to Tarek’s earlier statement. Despite the seriousness of their situation, Tarek couldn’t help but crack a smile at his wife’s comment. “I definitely won’t sweetie,” he said as he took her hand gently, “come on, we better get moving.” He continued as it was already dark. Soon the two of them were off to the nearest tavern, hand in hand.

Tarek had been in some shady places in his life, but this tavern was on a whole other level. From where he was standing outside, he could already see that it was small, filthy, loud and very crowded, filled to the brim with drunks and lowlifes. He gave Sanaki a look and then a small nod as he pushed open the tavern door and stepped inside with her. The room suddenly went silent. Gamblers turned from their tables, drunks momentarily stopped their binging, and even the strippers put their performances on hold as they all turned and glared at the couple that obviously did not belong.

An ill-looking, stark naked stripper finally spoke out: “Hey! Get her out of here! This is our turf!” she shouted, pointing angrily at Sanaki. Tarek suddenly made a large ball of swirling orange flames in his hand. “If you want to continue ‘working’ here and not on an ash heap, I suggest you shut up and go back to whatever it is that you were doing!” he threatened, making the fireball larger as he spoke. With that everyone quickly went back to their business.

Tarek glanced at Sanaki and squeezed her hand reassuringly, he then began looking around. “Maybe I can get some information from the bartender,” he whispered softly to Sanaki. Unfortunately the bar was really crowded and it would be difficult for both of them to get through the drunken rabble, besides Sanaki had to look out for whoever it was that she thought could help find the kidnappers. “I’ll be right back okay?” he whispered, holding both her hands in his, looking straight into her glazed eyes, “don’t drink anything…and keep your eyes open.” He continued before he slipped his hands out of hers and began pushing his way to the bar. Of course Tarek hated leaving Sanaki alone, especially in a place like this. Although if there was one thing that he knew about Sanaki, it was that she was more than capable of looking after herself.

As Tarek left, a particularly shady looking character started making his way to Sanaki. He was dressed slightly better than most of the rabble in the tavern., unfortunately the same couldn’t be said about his smell, he reeked of strong alcohol. With a mischievous grin he stepped up behind Sanaki and leaned his mouth toward her ear. “Well, well, well…if it isn’t the The Shadow Phoenix herself…” he cackled, roughly grabbing Sanaki’s butt, “long time no see, Sanaki…” he purred in a lustful voice.

Katsuo Zelgius Raiden

Katsuo smiled as Kaede hugged him. “Don’t worry Kaedee! We will be fine, as long as we are together.” He said sincerely, still hugging her tightly. He suddenly let out a long, cute yawn and stretched his little arms out, he was exhausted and understandably so, they had a terrible day. “I felt the sun go down…we should try get some sleep and talk about this more tomorrow…” he whispered to her.

He looked at their mattresses, which were across the room form each other and frowned. He was still scared, and he knew that Kaede was too. He quickly hopped up and pulled their beds together, sticking his little tongue out as he did it. When he finished he stood proudly and grinned at his sister. “There…now we don’t have to be apart see!” he said happily.

Sanaki Calameda Zelgius

Sanaki nodded. "aye... the sooner the better."
this plaxce was pretty damn shady, even to Sanaki's old standards. whatever the case, sometimes, this had to be done, and right now, Sanaki would strip naked and let herself be lathered in mud if it meant that it would get her children back.

after stepping inside and noticing a stark-naked stripper trying to threaten her, she instantly, and wordlessly, drew her swords, crossing them in front of her face, daring anyone to challenge her.
once that was out of the way, sh nodded at Tarek's suggestion, and she steered clear of anyone, aiming just to sit down. she remained very alert, her senses high.
she noticed someone approach her, and was ready to facepalm when suddenly, he had grabbed her ass. it had almost felt good, but it was far too suggestive, and more importantly, was not her lovee's hand.
she seized his wrist, gripping it and digging her claw-like fingernails into his skin. she may not have been very physically strong, but she was swift and deadly. besides, she wasn't even drawing blood yet.

"watch where you touch an assassin!" she exclaimed, "but then again... you might be able to help me. Tell me... how important is your life?"
she knew that he was not helpless either, but she was more than ready to fight him if needs be.

Kaede Zelgius Raiden

Kaede nodded. "you too? well yeah... we should get some sleep." she agreed.
when she saw what he was doing, she helped push the little mattresses together. "yeah... we need to get some sleep. hopefully mommy and daddy will find us tomorrow..."
she sighed, missing them. luckily she was still with Katsuo though. that made it all that much better than being alone. she probably would have lost it otherwise.
she was still scared as she climbed into bed, but she was comforted by her twin brother being with her.

Tarek Raiden

If Tarek had seen the shady character grabbing Sanaki’s butt, he would have turned him into a smouldering pile of ash without a second thought. However, he was too busy pushing overly friendly drunks out of his way as he tried to get to the crowded bar.

The foul smelling man winced in pain and tried twisting his body to escape Sanaki’s grip, but it didn’t help much. “Sanaki! Let go!” he pleaded, “It’s me! Higa! Good old Higa remember?! The information guy?”
What he said was true. He was an information broker of sorts, selling secrets and information to the highest bidder, mostly gangs and assassins. He was small time though, not charging half as much as he could for giving away all the secrets he had collected over the years, which was quite a bit seeing as he had his grubby little fingers in a lot of different pies. That fact that he offered cheap, reliable information is what caused his services to be in high demand with assassins.

He managed to eventually pull away from Sanaki. He looked up at her with a pained expression and rubbed his wrist. “It looks like you haven’t mellowed with age…and since when do you travel with a bodyguard…or do you keep him around to fill some more….base needs?” he asked, gesturing over to Tarek with a wicked smile. He straightened his jacked and brushed his hand through his hair. “Perhaps we got off on the wrong foot…There is no need to throw threats around! Let’s sit down and discuss what it is you need hmm?” he said flashing a flirty grin her way as his eyes lustfully began undressing her, looking her curvaceous figure up and down.

Katsuo Zelgius Raiden

Katsuo nodded at Kaede and climbed into the little bed too. He was just as scared as she was, the room was quite dark and there were a lot of scary noises around them. He snuggled close with his sister and closed his tired eyes. He missed his daddy and mommy. Though he knew in his little heart, that his parents would never abandon them, and with that encouraging thought, he fell asleep.
