Kano is a handsome young man who almost always wears a smile. He has a lean, athletic physique. His legs are particularly strong as a result of years of regular swimming. He keeps his hair fairly short, just long enough to be pulled back into a wolf's tail. He doesn't keep it up as he finds it uncomfortable, but he doesn't hesitate to put it up when he's expected to, such as formal occasions.

Kano's skin is pretty much flawless, having only a handful of distinguishing marks. There is a small birthmark on his left hip and a scar on his right collarbone, a souvenir from a particularly vigorous sparring match. He also has a smattering of faint freckles on each shoulder.

History: Kano was born to a well respected family made up of powerful waterbenders and wealthy Earth Kingdom immigrants. His father and mother had spent years adventuring together after a chance encounter with bandits near Omashu brought them to each others' aide. After their wanderings concluded, they discovered they enjoyed each others' company far too much to go their separate ways, so they married and continued their travels. When Suna became pregnant, they decided that they would like to plant their family's roots in the north.

Kano spent much of his childhood getting into a great deal of trouble. His practical jokes became notorious in the Northern Water Tribe, though none of them were devastating enough to warrant the family's expulsion. Even if they had been, Tako's father, Hakano was an adviser to the chief and would not allow his son and his family to be cast out over a few pranks. Still, pressure was placed upon Tako to reign Kano in and he was quick to oblige the demands. Kano was a waterbender. It was time he learned.

When he turned six, Kano's father began to train him in the art of waterbending. He established himself as a singularly gifted student, something which had been clear for many years given the nature of many of his pranks. Most involved liquefying an ice bridge underneath some unpleasant individual's feet. Much to Tako's surprise, however, his skills as a teacher attracted other students. Aowaka Style was an ancient one, used by more than one Avatar. Even with new students under his care, Tako's focus did not waver from his son. He gave Kano his all. It paid off.

By the time Kano turned fourteen, he was one of the finest up and coming young waterbenders in the north. He used his talents to great effect when he was taken on his first ice dodging expedition. When his father began teaching him healing, he picked it up quickly. He developed an intense interest in all forms of bending, seizing every opportunity to acquire waterbending, firebending, earthbending, and even airbending manuscripts. He took to odd jobs to acquire some spare coin to purchase these writings. With the influx of foreign merchants in the north, looking to sell their wares, he had access to many rare scrolls and books.

As time passed and he began playing with what he knew of the other forms of bending, he began to develop his own techniques inspired by the styles of the earthbenders and the airbenders especially. The firebending scrolls he found allowed him to play with more ferocious forms, reinvigorating his fighting style. All was well in his studies... for a time.

When Kano turned seventeen, his father decided that the time had come for him to delve into the darkest depths of the waterbending arts -- bloodbending. Tako was a master of the form. It was said that he could kill ten men with a thought. It was a legend that Kano was acutely aware of. It was a legend he feared. His father had always been a man of practical demonstration. He did not shy away from using his skills on his students to teach them what using those skills meant. However, it was not so with bloodbending. After teaching him the basic theory, Tako insisted that Kano bloodbend him. It was something he couldn't bring himself to do. When his father demanded he do as he was told, he refused again. Finally, in an effort to force Kano to do as he was told, Tako attacked him with the full force of his skills. Terrified, Kano lost control. Before he knew what had happened, his father was on the ground, groaning, blood dripping from his mouth. Kano stood there, horrified at what he had done. When his father began to stir once more, he turned and ran.

Kano ran far into the wilderness of the north. Within days, ships flying his grandfather's banner were skimming the shores, searching for him. He was convinced that he had inflicted a permanent injury upon his father... or worse. He couldn't bear the thought that he might actually have killed his own father. He eventually took shelter in a beached Fire Nation ship, left over from an accident long ago, and hid there in his grief. There he stayed for almost two weeks, living off of fish and melted snow until he was finally found by one of the search vessels. They had spotted the smoke issuing from the wreck in the moonlight. Hakano himself was among those who boarded the wreck. He was the one who found Kano, staring at the flames of his pitiful fire with empty eyes. When he spoke to Kano, he received no response. It was only when Tako entered the room, his arm in a sling, that Kano reacted at all to their presence. He tried to escape, but the two of them caught him.

His father explained to him that it had been a mistake to force him to bloodbend. He admitted his error and assured Kano that he was not angry. By then, however, guilt had set so deeply in Kano that he could no longer bring himself to even consider bloodbending. Tako was disappointed, but he understood. Kano returned to the Northern Water Tribe. He hid himself away in his house for some time. He still couldn't face his father, even after everything that had happened. Yet he did return to his studies, if only in private. It wasn't long before the urge to return to his friends and fellow students won out against his guilt and he returned to the Aowaka Training Hall. However, to this day, he still has not forgiven himself and he hasn't bloodbended as single time since...

Changes approved. Don't think any other active member is more qualified for a position like this. Glad to have you as a leader of the world. ^_^
