Onushi Shaorin [WIP] Talus-base
Image is for visual representation only and is not fully accurate

Full Name: Commander Onushi Shaorin
Gender: Male
Age: 48
Element: "Cold metal and brawn is all I've got, 'sides my intellect."
Birthplace: "Home, eh?.. Been a while since I've been back in the Caldera Dock District."
Position: "Used t' be a Captain of the Fire Nation Recovery Vessel... We flew a peaceful banner in th' name o' the people... Just a scum rebel now figh'en fer a lost cause."

Personality:

Abilities:

In general, Onushi has tempered his skills in and out of combat. He is a devoted, veteran soldier who has well-earned his status as a master lancer and shieldaire. He's also more than once... Well in his words: "Proved me mettle at th' forge! *Laughs heartily*". His skillsets are as follows:

-Lances[can use spears, but to much less effect] (Master-Level): Onushi's sole interest in weapons was those with which he could strike from a distance, but still driven by the sheer might built into his muscles from growing up in a forge. The obvious choice was some form of pole-arm. However it was strange that Onushi took a keen liking to a weapon designed only to be used from horseback in a charge. But alas, he chose the weapon to take advantage of his brute strength as he could effectively combat the bending his family lineage had been denied as a whole.

The inherent advantages of such a brutishly tall and strong man built near pure of muscle is that one can not only drive such a piercing weapon through much from the ground without need for lengthy respite, but also the ability to use the heavy shaft to bash foes, or swipe them off their feet. One would be surprised the number of things a lance can do beyond bash and stab, though the primary advantage is the weapon's reach-- as with any polearm.

Perhaps Onushi's greatest techniques are the somewhat peculiar lunges he has mastered. While he may seem generally immobile, one utilizing such a heavy weapon and armor must discover ways to overcome greater distances offensively and swiftly to deal better with those both of greater range and speed than their more slowed and armored target. To overcome this heavy disadvantage, Onushi has toned his own technique for a forward lunge utilizing his own mammoth weight and sheer leg strength as well as the impressive inclusion of his height into reach. In this way he can lunge and strike an opponent from about 9 meters away, plus his lance's striking length, all at considerable speeds to catch quicker opponents off guard. The major drawback is the recovery from this is great and the motion is tasking on the body, limiting excessive use on behalf of the fatigue it can cause with such heavy armaments.

As for the weaknesses of Onushi's lance style, there is his grand reliance on defense and strength. This slows him sometimes even to a crawl in combat, and to force himself to move at speed is a process prone to much task and can easily wear down even the endurance of such a veteran soldier and forgemaster. He also relies greatly on his shield and armor to protect him from those with speed enough to overcome his reach and close in to where his lance is of little use. This can make close quarters hell for the hulking mass of metal and muscle, forcing him to find less wieldy combat solutions than his tastes allow.

-Greater Kite Shield (Hard skillset to debate, but could be considered a master of shield defense): At first merely a compensation for the terrible defensive capabilities of lances, Onushi raised his shield statically as a mere cover for the consistent weaknesses of his style. Over countless years Onushi has learned that while a shield has best uses for their general purpose, they are surprisingly dynamic weapons and if used correctly can even support dangerous charging tactics and protect him during more exposed tactics of the lance, particularly his unique lunge (In which he could just as well use the motion for a shield bash with all his considerable strength and weight behind it).

His true love of the shield comes from its diversity, which is sadly limited when using heavy armors such as his which restrict more flexible motions. Yet it still can block, parry, deflect, mitigate, bash, 'stab' (With the corner to damage armor), flip, trip, pin, and even in some cases disarm. It is a tool for combat key to Onushi's styles, and one he would be easily struck and overwhelmed without. Perhaps such is why he has gone great lengths to practically infuse the metal to his guantlet, which allows his hand to be free to grab as it may; though this can be very unwieldy in the numerous situations in which a shield can be used against oneself *As a grappling point with much leverage that can be used against his arm, as an easy pin-point should he fall to the ground (One does not simple... get up when their shield is pinned to the ground)*. In some case such fault could prove fatal, getting him physically stuck when otherwise he could have easily avoided a trap or deadly assault from his foe.

-Flanged Mace (Average): There's little to be said about his skills with a mace, but Onushi has practically been left with no choice but to select a weapon for closed quarters (Given he was to become a captain of a ship with many halls that pirates loved to board). So he chose a flanged mace, a weapon that could reave body and metal alike while maintaining general speeds preferable to the slower, though much more ranged lance. Mostly he rarely even practices with it, leaving the masterly forged weapon to gather dust at his side.

-Martial Combat (Average, but an expert grappler): One can easily find themselves without weapons or armor to protect them. Thus Onushi has indeed toned his unarmed combat to a degree. However, unlike the mastery he holds with the lance and shield, he is only really capable of fending off an attacker with dodges and throws/grapples until he is able to better arm himself. At best, he's a brawler, not a martial artist in this respect, only his natural skill and expertise in combat helps him to survive without weapons.

His skills with grappling, though, are somewhat phenomenal. While one could easily relate this to his brutish nature in combat, he tends to be strangely fluid when throwing, grabbing, or pinning opponents. Mainly this is in result of his trend to prefer using leverage and weight to wear out and outlast an opponent rather than outright damage them into submission (As far as hand-to-hand combat is concerned).

-Smithing/Mechanical (Master-Class Weapons and Armor Smith, as well as a master of mechanical constructions): Having been raise by a blacksmith, Onushi was born into the forge-environment. Ever since he was old enough to lift a smith's hammer, he's been forging weapons and armor, smelting ores into metals, and even purifying metals of earthly faults. His father (a popular smith for the Fire Nation army) even had taught him about mechanical devices from all the nations, and how each and everyone worked. This was all a study and experience spread throughout his life beneath his father.

Ever since his father's death, he's toned his forging and smelting techniques to mastery, as well as crafting mechanical devices to rival the Northern Air Temple inventors. Though he could never truly match their ingenuity in sciences as a whole, he's always had the resources and time to tone mechanical knowledge for himself.

Appearance:
Height:
"Heh.. They call me a giant, since oi' stand at a whoppin' 7 feet with even 3 inches over."
Weight: "With or whi'out me armor?.. Err.. I'd say about twenty-stones, give-or-take."
Eyes: "You mean these pret'y amber jewels?"
Hair: "Ya blind, mate? All these questions abou' what'cha can see... If oi' must answer I'd say a fair dark brown. Raven, is it? Meh.. I s'pose I need ta look in a mirror now and again."

[Still need his description here]

Weaponry & Other Gear:

Piercing Drive
Materials: Some think only platinum can be unbendable, but Onushi learned nearly any metal is unbendable when purified of earthen faults. Steel is inherently faulted, so he settled with titanium-- a metal similar in strength to steel, but lighter.

Description:
This strange, 8-foot lance is made of titanium purified to be without earthen materials, making it unbendable by even the grandest metalbender. The core is hollow to accommodate the retractable chain that can return the detachable tip via a gear-based mechanism built into the vamplate of the lance. This device is also used to disengage the lock that would usually keep the lance in it's "Whole" state. Without the central chain being tense, the tip can be flung about like a meteor hammer, giving Onushi an edge at a distance.

The tip may extend up to 16' from the tip of the lance. This distance can be varied via the gear mechanism.

The design of the lance is not intricate, but has a platinum-style sheen and the pointed tip is visibly somewhat overlapped by the tapered pole to which it's attached.

Tyrantbane
Materials: Purified Titanium
Description: A flanged mace of simple design. Short and made for mobility in case of Onushi's inability to use his lance. A secondary weapon where speed is favored over reach.

Stalwart Will
Materials: Purified Tungsten-Plated Titanium
Description: A kite shield with the only intricate designs within sight on this hulking mammoth of a man. It is plated with a tungsten dragon curled about an ocean of ships at war. Otherwise, the shield is of a height roughly five feet with three feet at its widest. It is fast-fastened to Onushi's gauntlet, making it difficult to remove, but allowing him to utilize his hand freely. This shield can be bulky and prevent much mobility due to its general lack of means to be detached.

Justice Immortalized
Materials: As always, Titanium purified of earthen faults.
Description: This heavy, plated armor is designed to defend from bending. However, having a thick bit of metal between you and your opponent is always advantageous to combat weapons as well. However, the plated design allows heavy impacts to be taken without severe damage to the wearer, and heat will be slow to spread to adjacent plates. The latter minimize a firebender's barrages. Fortunately, titanium is lighter than an equal volume of steel while maintaining similar durability. However, this does not mean the armor isn't heavy, just lighter than steel.

There are problems with plate armor, given that a thin blade can easily slip between plates if well-placed and pierce right through the water-retardant leathers beneath; denser/more covering plates as well as joints are susceptible to blunt trauma;

History:

....more rare, however only so in natural pure deposits. Onushi's father taught him to smelt ilmenite and rutile to extract titanium from these common ores.(120)
