The Mercenary's icy blue eye watched as the shy, young maid ran off in a hurry. He only shrugged and waved as she went, turning about on a foot silently as he headed off to the dining hall. To the left, the maid had described, and Zai wandered down the brilliantly designed passage in search of the correct left. As it so happened, 'twas the first left not hindered by a door, and Zai walked in his usual reclusive, quiet manner where dinner was to be served.

Once within the spacious area, he didn't much bother to look around in amazement. The palace was glorious, yes, but he didn't have the palate to gawk at it like a peasant, nor to truely appreciate the ingenious architecture.

The Dining room would appear empty with the exception of the servants making preperations, along the large room there would be large antique wooden tables that stretched all across the entire banquet sized room, and a table at the end where the absent firelord and his relatives would sit, there, leaning against the firelords seat Azula would be standing, looking around, at the servants squabbling to have dinner ready for everyone who was attending, this clearly meant nobles, relatives, military commanders, generals, and heroes.

Once he had arrived, it became clear to him he'd been retrieved early. Dinner had yet been finished, but at least he was early, and not late after food had been served. He knew little of etiquette, but he knew this to be rude.

Like all things in the Royal Palace, the room and all within was huge in proportions, the large tables and even the chairs showed much design and expense. Zai whistled lowly and quietly. He and the nobility must share a common interest in food to maintain such a room for the sole purpose of it. For the moment, he ambled in an odd path around the large tables, approaching Azula where she stood at wait for him. He gave a mock bow, though he wasn't really the one to show respect, the notion was more to poke fun at the idea of the situation they found themselves in.

"Well... The room is exquisite, the maid cute and shy, and the dining room dedicated and glorified. What else might a common man ask for," he joked, grinning lightly.

Azula would smirk when he would come to her, she would return the mock bow, she looks towards the kitchen and take in a whiff, "Smells good, Hmm?" She turned around and then says, "However, it they don't hurry up, someone is going to get burned." She would hold a small ember in her left hand, it is hard to tell if she is joking or not.

She would then sit on the table and dangle her legs, "Sometimes I wish I could be back in the south pole, Even already I miss the Adventure, knowing a Polar Bear Dog could leap on me and claw me to death without a seconds warning." she would huff out a bit of air, blowing her bangs out of her face for a moment.

Zai inhaled deeply the scent, nodding in agreement. Though her suggestion did cause him to raise his eyebrow. From the likes of it, what with servants tending to have more free will, just have their job on the line, he assumed she was joking, and propped himself against the table, next to her. He was sure not to get too close for comfort. Most didn't like someone of his... Skillset being too physically proximal to them.

"It is quite a thrill to know death lingers, indeed," he said, grinning to her, also remembering many a time he'd been lingering so excitingly close to the edge as well. "Perhaps we can attempt a while in the Si Wong desert some time. It's quite the experience as well." His suggestion was sincere, and he looked to her again as he waited for her comment on the idea. He believed it'd be something of fun, and possibly training to one day go to the treacherous desert.

She would ponder the idea, she did like the idea of attempting to beat the heat with firebending, she would nod, "I like the sound of that, I never, ever decline an adventure like that." She would nod, knowing he was serious. Agreeing to what he proposed.

The Servants would begin to exit the kitchen, bringing food with them, placing it on the table. Azula would know the smell now, it was fine steak, she knew her whole life the Fire Nation palace served amazing food, its meats most prominent. Suddenly, nobles would begin to enter the room, the room would soon be filled up with people at the feast.

Azula agreed to his proposition, bringing a grin to his visage. "Glad you're up for the challenge." He was glad, after all. The Si Wong Desert was a place he hadn't often traveled; to travel it alone would mean almost certain death or getting lost in the endless, markless terrain.

The servants and nobles began to enter the room, tables set now with food the nobles had reason to seat themselves. Zai motioned for Azula to locate seats for them. He'd sit next to her of course, but he wondered how close they'd be to the Fire Lord. The farther away, the better, really; having a renown ex-assassin next to the Fire Lord would, at the very least, incite much tension.

Azula would smirk at Hakota, and then guide him to the larger, more decorative table, The Largest seat clearly meant for the Firelord, Azula would sit in it, and sigh. "No, He is not here." She would announce. "While the Firelord is gone, I've been relaxing on his throne, and in his place, y'know, Casual stuff." She would yawn and rest her head on the back of the chair.

Food would then be served, the servants coming out, Azula would sit Hakota down next to her, where the Heir to the throne is supposed to sit. The Servant would open a silver tray, revealing fine chicken soup, with a side of professionally baked bread. The Servant would then nod, "Second Course is Steak, freshly slaughtered right here in the Homeland Fire Nation, Only the best for the Royal Family, And..." He would look at Hakota.

Zai took the place beside Azula as he was seated there. He only knew from his personal studies that this would be where the heir sat. He took no heed of it, though, as he decided it mere coincidence and he was merely glad there'd be little political tension today. He proceeded to grin whilst food was placed before them. Chiken soup, a good appetizer for any great meal.

"Second Course is Steak, freshly slaughtered right here in the Homeland Fire Nation, Only the best for the Royal Family, And..." The servant said as he looked at Zai, expecting something perhaps inglorious, so Zai gave him exactly so.

"...And the most skilled and dangerous 'peasant' of the four nations here to return a favor to the princess," he said wryly with a grin. He swiftly took a sip of the soup, picking up the bowl to do so. "And some steak sounds perfect, thank you."

Azula would nod, not eating a bite quite yet, she would stand up and look out a large bay window, down upon a crowd of people in the city, calmly she would smirk at the Fire Nation's loyal subjects. bowing her head she would continue watching the activities, rather then join in on the feast.
