Techs, Ranks, and Stopping OP DONE Empty
PostSubject: Techs, Ranks, and Stopping OP DONE   Techs, Ranks, and Stopping OP DONE EmptyFri May 18, 2012 7:29 pm

Okay, so I've noticed that a lot of stuff on here is really OP. I have a way to stop that. First up: Techs.

Techs are like how Gysu uses earth bending to create weapons. Or skills like how someone can do a back flip over someone else's head and do a certain martial arts technique. Here are some tips for if this ideal is approved.

God mod abilities are practically auto-unapproved.
Make sure you know how much Chi you have before making your skills or techs as well as how many techs and skills you are allowed to have before making any skills or techs.
Be descriptive
There is no way to regain regenerate or replenish your own chi due to a tech at this point.
Do not constantly barrage mods and admins for approval.
Do not fail to follow the format. Mods will ignore your post.
Do not copy other people's techs because it is a good idea. It will not be approved.
Do not create a tech that can use its effect multiple times for one expenditure of chi, such as "Can shoot three balls of fire."
Here are some tips on what I want to know with every question in the template:

Name: (What is the name of your skill or tech? What is it called?)
Rank: (What is the rank of your tech or skill?)
Chi Cost: (How much Chi is being depleted from your spiritual pool to use this skill or tech? How much does it cost?)
Requirements: (What do you need in order to use the skill or tech? Are their any
special requirements unique to your character?)
Class: (What is the tech used for? Offense, Defense, Supplementary)
Effect: (What exactly does the tech or skill do? How does it help you? Explain in great detail the effects, advantages, as well as any disadvantages of the tech. Details are the key to a fast approval.)
Cooldown: (Cooldown)
Duration: (If your tech has a duration add it here)
History: (How did you receive this tech or skill? What have you done with it? What has it done? How has it helped you?)

Next, Ranks! We already have a "You chose your own" But that might not be a very good ideal with all of these new members. So I suggest that we do another form of it.

Equipment Points: Basically like inventory space. Every item costs a certain amount of Equipment points depending on its rank, and while its in your possession, your total points will be reduced. For instance, if you're an A-Rank character you will have 40 Equipment points. If you're carrying a B-Rank item, which costs 20 Equipment points, you will be left with 20 Equipment points. If that item should be destroyed, or you loose it, your points will be restored to 40. This is simply a system to limit the number of powerful items you can carry at any given time.

Basic (D-Rank)

Right now you're at the beginning of your adventure. Beware of the stronger characters, they might tease you a bit. Don't worry about that though. Train and you might become stronger than them.

Techs: Allowed 12
Equipment Points: 10

Novice (C-Rank) (150 posts)

It seems like you're finally getting used being a character. Good job.

Techs: Allowed 16
Equipment Points: 15

Intermediate (B-Rank) (300 posts)

Amazing! You can actually call yourself a decent character now. Be nice to the basic and novice characters. Remember, you used to be one of them. Help them out.

Techs: Allowed 18
Equipment Points: 25

Experienced (A-Rank) (500 posts)

Hey you're actually able to fight against some other characters with a high chance of winning. Keep in mind that there are stronger characters than you! Don't get too cocky.

Techs: Allowed 21
Equipment Points: 40

Expert (S-Rank) (700 posts)

You're the real deal now. An expert character that is able to kick ass. You are finally allowed to take those super awesome S-rank missions, bounties, etc!

Techs: Allowed 28
Equipment Points: 60

Ace (X-Rank) (700 posts)

A rank only given to the best characters, such as Ozai with the comet. Keep in mind there are no X-rank techs, this is just a bonus rank.

Techs: Allowed 34
Equipment Points: 80

Grand Master / Z-Rank

So you're finally a super powered character now? Good luck with that. It's a hard task that requires you to guide and help out your underlings. You're not allowed to travel much, so you have to spend most of your time in the dojo, or wherever you teach, protecting it.

Techs: Allowed 40
Equipment Points:85

The first thing that should be noted is the Breakdown of tech strength.

RANK S A B C D
S 1 2 4 8 24
A 1/2 1 2 4 12
B 1/4 1/2 1 2 6
C 1/8 1/4 1/2 1 3
D 1/24 1/12 1/6 1/3 1

In other words, each rank is twice as strong as the previous, with the exception of the C-rank and D-rank, with the former being 3x stronger than the latter. This is really meant for defensive purposes, demonstrating how much a certain rank can take of a certain ranked tech.

5 S's. Speed, Strength, Sum, Situation, and Size.

Speed:

How fast does the tech travel? Ordinarily, speeds are allowed based on the following table, although the other 4 S's may effect the decision on how fast a tech of a certain rank should be.

E-rank: 5 meters/second
D-rank: 10 meters/second
C-rank: 15 m/s
B-rank: 20 m/s
A-rank: 25 m/s
S-rank: 30 m/s

Follow those guidelines for speed, and you'll be in a good place.

Strength:

How strong is your tech? Keep in mind that the chart is mostly based upon the speed and sum. Most of the time, you can follow this chart in terms of possible damage to an opponent:

E-rank: N/A (E-rank techs do not have a great amount of effective combat use, and cause no damage)
D-rank: Bruises and small cuts. At most knocking the wind out of someone, and nothing more than piercing the skin in terms of cuts.
C-rank: Bigger welts and deeper wounds able to reach the muscle at most. Capable of also breaking bones if the tech hits directly.
B-rank: Capable of breaking bones and causing significant bleeding. Wounds can cut through muscle and down to the bone. 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
A-rank: Can cause intense trauma and kill on direct impact. Lower ranking techs can sometimes kill if the prerequisites are high (such as requiring a spell to be used prior).
S-rank: Death and amputation. Grave wounds and maiming tend to fall here.

A PRECISE amount of damage must be listed in your tech description. Nothing vague like "it deals a lot of damage" or, my personal favorite, "a moderate amount".

DEFENSIVE TECHS are more difficult to judge, however, the basic guidelines are as follows:

Elementally/Logically Neutral Against Attack: Can take 2 techs of equal rank (following the breakdown of tech strength). If the defense is mobile or fairly large, this may be reduced to 1 tech of equal rank. Slight variation here, but for the most part this is what is the common basis.
Elementally Strong Against Attack: 1 rank higher in terms of defense.
Elementally Weak Against Attack: 1 rank lower in terms of defense.

Sum:

How many things are being launched or performed by your tech. I don't have an exact chart for this, but usually lower ranking techs (provided that the strength is the same as above) are somewhere between 1-6 in number (E/D), while middle techs (C/B) are 6-25, and stronger techs (A/S) are 20+. Of course, this is easily effected by the strength and size of the tech, and is VERY INCONSISTENT. Just use common sense for this one. Exact numbers should be listed for this, not a vague term such as "a lot", "a few", "an immense amount", or "many".

Situation:

When will this tech be used? Usually, the more situations a tech can be used in, the lower the strength and sum will be. If the tech really only has use for a rare situation (such as being binded or surrounded by mult. enemies) those techs are allowed to be a bit stronger. Another S that requires common sense and judgement.

Size:

Obviously, the lower the rank, the smaller the size. HOWEVER, in certain circumstances such as needles and weapons, larger numbers are allowed, unless the needles/weapons have added effects such as extending their reach or extra damage. Actual dimensions in either inches, feet, centimeters, or meters should be given in EVERY TECH that creates something.

Now, instead of using Chi I'm thinking of saying that you can only use this tech X number of times

No to all of this. Statistically breaking down characters, their abilities, is a good way to kill writing creativity and cause arguments. If you want to go play DnD go do it somewhere else.

I have to disagree with you here, this doesn't statistically break down characters it only helps put shackles on their so called creativity. Gysu is an excellent example of where shackles are needed, so is my character, and all characters whose "creativity" and "abilities" go sky high.

That being said, I unfortunately STILL oppose this idea, because we have a low population and this only makes people run away. We need to make New Chapters more simple to access, not more time consuming.

It appears that a lot of people here think that this is a new rule change that will be heavily enforced. DON'T THINK THAT!!!!!!! This was merely an idea I had. No more. No less. I will only refer to this if god modding gets to be too bad.
