Da-Zho Yin [Expert] Completed Empty
PostSubject: Da-Zho Yin [Expert] Completed   Da-Zho Yin [Expert] Completed EmptyTue Dec 02, 2014 6:12 pm

Full Name: Da-Zho Yin
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Element: Non-Bender, capable of using a bow but not a warrior.
Birthplace: Omashu
Position: Artisan
Training: Expert Artisan
Blacksmith [Expert]
Bladesmith [Expert]
Fletcher [Expert]
Locksmith [Intermediate]
Glassblower [Intermediate]
Archery [Expert]

Personality: (437) Da-Zho is a likeable man, if unusually straightforward. He carries his business to the point, and is always keen on making the best deal for both himself and the customer. Since he was a young boy, he wanted to become an apprentice blacksmith, but since he hadn’t been gifted with any bending abilities that the job had come to favor, he had to work incredibly hard to become skilled enough. Thanks to this, Da-Zho gained an extraordinary work ethic, and a perfectionist streak. He can be extremely hard on himself in times of failure, but is also known for alternating this work ethic with periods of extreme relaxation. Da-Zho has been keen on travelling the world, something he does a little more of periodically when his work can be put on hold for long enough.

Behind the business side of Da-Zho, however, is a fairly cold, and very distant man. While he has some friends, he is not known for loving anyone. He prefers to travel alone, instead of in groups, and relations with his employees are purely professional. He is often solemn and quiet, although has humorous tendencies when it comes to morbidity, which often results in him accidentally alienating himself from others. He tends away from vices, he does not drink, indulge in drugs of any kind, abstains, etc. Da-Zho is also very frugal. Though he earns good money from his work, he spends very little of it, and eats only what he needs to, and travels very lightly.

This frugality sometimes exposes Da-Zho as reckless, and that’s not totally incorrect. Travelling so lightly has endangered him many times, and as a result he has learned to live off the land. He is also ambitious. Since he was at such a disadvantage when he had his dream to become a blacksmith, he has had to become an opportunist and even at times a cutthroat to get what he wants. Now, his primary goal is to become a master at his art, and not just an average master, but the best master he has known. He wants to look down at all the work he has seen from others and know that his is better. These ambitions have given Da-Zho a fear of change, however, and upon hearing about and seeing results of the impending Industrial Revolution, he has become fearful. He fears his life’s work is on the line, and he will have no true legacy to leave behind in his field. Da-Zho wishes to impede this progress by any means necessary, and keep machines and industry from taking the meaning of his skill away.

Abilities: (442) Da-Zho learned the basics of most of his skills at a young age, due to many reasons. He realized that in order to become a blacksmith like he dreamed, he would also have to be at least capable in other trades in order to stack up against the fierce competition of earth and metal benders.

Blacksmith: Da-Zho accepted an apprenticeship from a non-bending blacksmith, and learned the trade from him. He learned the basics of making swords, axes, spears, armors, as well as locks, animal shoes, and other civilian items. Eventually, Da-Zho furthered his craft and opened up his own shop, which eventually became successful primarily in the sale of swords and earned Da-Zho the majority of his sizeable wealth.
Bladesmith: Bladesmithing is Da-Zho’s specialty, and earned him fame across Omashu and into parts of the nearby Earth Kingdom towns. He is known for creating both ornate and functional swords at fair prices.
Fletching: Since Da-Zho is a bowman, it was only logical for him to learn to make his own bows and arrows. He sells some in his shop, but he is not known for it. Despite him not marketing this skill, he is extremely adept at it, and uses bows he constructs in combat. These bows prove to be resilient yet deft, giving the user a huge command of the battlefield. The bows’ range goes farther than most other bows and the arrows can pierce all but the thickest of armor.
Locksmith: Da-Zho learned to locksmith from his original master, as his master was quite a locksmith. Da-Zho himself does not pursue the craft as rigorously as others, but he sells locks in his shop and is capable of repairing them and breaking them.
Glassblowing: This skill is unique in Da-Zho’s repertoire as it was one that his master did not teach him and he had never intended to learn. As fate would have it, he ended up being needed to help build homes in a village during one of his travels, and he picked up the skill from a fellow artisan there. Da-Zho uses the skill frequently now to create cool items, but still does not possess the skill (in his opinion) to sell them at his shop, although customers frequently ask if they are for sale.
Archery: Da-Zho learned archery from his father, an Omashu soldier, and pursued the skill nearly as rigorously as his smithing. He used it to defend himself on his travels frequently, and sometimes even participated in skirmishes he had no real place in. In addition to his defense, he used these skills for some nefarious purposes during his rise as a successful blacksmith.

Appearance:
Height: 6’4’’
Weight: Muscular
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black
Skin: Tan

(358)
Da-Zho is a physically intimidating man, even among many earthbenders. His career as a blacksmith has made him muscular, and he is naturally taller than most people. His exact weight is unknown, as the only time that he was weighed, he ended up breaking the scale. Despite his large size, he is extremely dexterous, as he has trained as an archer for the majority of his life. He has longer fingers than average, and his size makes even longbows look small. His face is somewhat nondescript, if it wasn’t for his size he would blend in with Earth Kingdom citizens seamlessly. He has short hair that doesn’t reach even his ears, but grows thick. His eyes are brown and his face looks to be in a state of perpetual concentration or frustration. For clothes, what Da-Zho wears largely depends on situation, as he is a man of practicality. For work he wears a simple brown shirt with a low-reaching neck. Over this he wears a plain green apron with pockets for various tools. His pants are baggy but reach no lower than just below his knee, and are also colored brown. He wears leather sandals. When Da-Zho travels, he wears more militant clothing, with little to distinguish himself from an Earth Kingdom soldier. He wears a conical sun hat, made of reeds on his head, and beneath he wears armor of his own making. The armor was originally from an order that Da-Zho was to fill for the Omashu military, but was cancelled. He converted the sets into commercial armor and took two sets to convert to his own. He trimmed down the size of the armor in order to make it more mobile, in order to suit his archery, and colored it brown and white instead of leaf green, as the Omashu military wears. Other than color, he can be distinguished from Earth Kingdom soldiers in that he wears full boots, and the armor does not have much shoulder protection and uses short sleeves. Da-Zho does not have any clothing for more noble or festive events, usually relying on borrowing it from others should the need arise.

Weaponry & Other Gear:

Item Name Da-Zho’s Shortbow
Materials: Composite of animal horns and bamboo wood. String comes from animal tendon.
Description: Da-Zho’s shortbow is very traditional in construction and styling. The bow comes from all natural material and is shaped as most traditional bows. [A real-world comparison would be the Ming Dynasty Kaiyuan Bow.

History: (520)
Da-Zho was born in Omashu as a single child. His mother and father were not on good terms, and conditions only worsened between them after Da-Zho’s birth. Eventually, Da-Zho’s parents agreed to leave each other, and his mother would travel back to Chin City, where her family lived. Da-Zho stayed with his father, Borri, an Earth Kingdom soldier and adept bowman. Borri was intimidated by parenthood, but as a commander in the military, he had some experience training people. Da-Zho lived a straightforward childhood. He was taught discipline and honor, and perhaps most importantly to him, he learned the skill of the bow. He trained for hours a day, along with other schooling his father put him through. Borri couldn’t afford to send Da-Zho to school, but he himself was an educated man, and instilled the importance of education in Da-Zho. Thanks to his father, Da-Zho became literate and capable of mathematics, basic science, even strategy. Borri would also take Da-Zho on trips through Omashu, but would never bring him on military expeditions or operations, despite how much Da-Zho might beg. Ultimately, Borri would leave Da-Zho with a master blacksmith named Yuro, from whom Da-Zho would gain his desire to become a blacksmith. Yuro would show Da-Zho bits of his work, how he did what he did and even let Da-Zho make himself a dagger. Yuro was very impressed with Da-Zho's work and suggested he pursue blacksmithing.

Da-Zho kept this interest alive, and when he was 11, old enough to apply for an apprenticeship, he contacted several master blacksmiths. Unfortunately, Yuro had since retired and legally could not take Da-Zho on as an apprentice. The first group of blacksmiths Da-Zho applied to would not take him, for he was not an earthbender, let alone a metalbender. The blacksmiths would seek after these groups for their talents with the trade, and so Da-Zho was skipped over. Eventually, Da-Zho managed to meet an untalented blacksmith, who was a nonbender as well. Da-Zho was unsatisfied with this being the only blacksmith to accept him, and he would work incredibly hard to be noticed by superior smiths. For some time, his work was laughable to the superior smiths, but Da-Zho had learned how to work harder than any other apprentice in Omashu. Eventually, Da-Zho got the attention he desired. When he was 13, his work was finally noticed by one of the best smiths in Omashu, who was especially impressed by Da-Zho's work ethic, and knew Da-Zho's father, Borri. Borri had spoken highly of Da-Zho's bow skills for years to almost anyone he knew, including this blacksmith, Ti-Wu. Ti-Wu offered to take Da-Zho on as an apprentice, under some very specific terms. Ti-Wu wanted someone dead, a competing blacksmith who had recently arrived in Omashu. This new blacksmith had, in Ti-Wu's opinion, acted only dishonorably, bringing all the customers to his shop through silly marketing schemes and psychological tricks. In addition, he had bribed several guards to check all of his competitors' shops to make sure they were "in regulation," though there were few regulations in the first place. After insulting Ti-Wu's family over these squabbles, Ti-Wu decided that it was time for this man to be put away. He took Da-Zho on and Da-Zho delivered, using a firearrow to burn down the new smith's shop and killing him in his home with a single arrow through the head.

A new chapter of life was open to Da-Zho. He left his home in order to become a full apprentice. He worked relentlessly. Ti-Wu expected Da-Zho to be as capable as any earth or metalbender. Ti-Wu also taught Da-Zho locksmithing and decided that it would be a good idea for him to specialize in bladesmithing. Again, he worked relentlessly. He knew his success would rely on him working harder than everyone else. Once he reached the age of 18, Ti-Wu certified Da-Zho as a fully-fledged blacksmith, ready to open his own shop, or be employed by another. Da-Zho knew he would need to open his own shop, as he wouldn't be capable of being a mere employee at another shop without bending. His gift was his creativity, not his ability to work metal. He applied for bank loans to open his shop, but none of them considered him a worthy investment. Da-Zho would have to work for his shop, and he knew the best way to do it. After his first assassination on the blacksmith, Ti-Wu had kept Da-Zho connected with the criminal underground, should he ever be in need of their help, and now he needed their money. He contacted the largest crime coordinator in the city, and he offered Da-Zho a job in exchange for enough money to open the shop. It was an easy task for someone with Da-Zho's skills, or so he thought. The crime lord needed him to take out an Omashu military commander named Borri. Borri had been keeping the lid on an operation the crime lord desperately wanted to begin, and he had to be removed. Da-Zho wouldn't kill his father, there was no way. He had to find another way. Da-Zho spent a week plotting, and eventually gathered his plan. Borri patrolled near one of the mail chutes every tuesday afternoon, and at that time there was a mail delivery that would consistently go through as Borri passed. If Da-Zho could blow up the chute a certain way so that it would merely injure his father, he could get Borri sent to Ba Sing Se for rehabilitation, only to return in a year or so. It sounded achievable, and so Da-Zho decided to follow through on it. Everything was perfectly in place and Da-Zho executed the maneuver, but he had miscalculated. The chute didn't injure Borri, it crushed him, killed him instantly. Da-Zho had murdered his father.

Da-Zho collected the money from the crime lord, who congratulated him on having the stones to kill his own father and get away with it, then offered Da-Zho even more possibilities. Appalled that the crime lord knew Borri was his father, Da-Zho murdered the crime lord as well and managed to escape without being noticed, he seemed to have a knack for that. Once Da-Zho was out of the situation, he was devestated. Borri was the only person that Da-Zho loved, and he owed everything he had to Borri. He vowed never to return to the crimes and opened his shop in his honor. For some time he worked closely with the military to eliminate the crime operation, but eventually settled down at the age of 23 to work his forge. Da-Zho began travelling to relieve himself from the sadness Omashu brought him. He picked up new skills, and saw the world for the first time. Unfortunately, on his travels to the Fire Nation, Da-Zho picked up the taste of the Industrial Revolution for the first time. He saw blacksmith businesses struggling to keep afloat, while factories that merely built the same cheap weapon over and over thrived and put huge money into the pockets of the founders. It hurt Da-Zho to see the skills of his colleagues forgotten and their businesses wasting away. Da-Zho returned to Omashu with the goal of stopping this Revolution. He could not tolerate this abomination and could not imagine what horrible world it would create. He abandoned his vows to never return to the criminal world and began to form an underground society that supported his opinions called the Ludines. He also attempted to bring publicity to the harms of Revolution and declared those that supported it his enemies.

Now, Da-Zho has become a powerful blacksmith in his own right, and a powerful warrior. But ultimately, Da-Zho is inside a hurt and fearful man, determined to put distance between himself and the world.

Da-Zho Yin

Da-Zho was frustrated. He had recently read of the attempt to have the King allow for construction of a factory in Omashu, and decided to speak with the King himself about it. He had been granted approval to hold council with the king, but unfortunately the King did not look to hold Da-Zho's opinions too highly. How he could the King not see that opening the first factory would be his consent to a dozen more? How could he not see the dangers of industrialization? Da-Zho snorted and continued to mentally list his frustrations. An industrialized society, pah! It creates lazy, unskilled laborers. It creates monotony, conformity, a lack of drive to achieve anything better than what was expected! Nevermind the quality of work either, the king seemed to favor quantity over quality in this situation. He had described to Da-Zho the usefulness of factories that would create clothes for many, swords for many, and bring everything to where it could be afforded by all of his citizens. Disgusting!

Da-Zho arrived at his shop, and simply began to hammer away at his anvil. He was fashioning a blade for a teenager who desperately wanted to learn to become a warrior, but didn't have the money for a fine blade. Da-Zho would make him an adequate one for cheaper than anyone else, and he was proud of that, but he knew once the factories came in he would lose customers like this.

After an hour the blade was done, and soon the teenager arrived to pick it up and pay Da-Zho.

"30 yuans for solid steel. This will hold up fine for you, but make sure to give the 'receipt' to your parents."

The receipt was not a receipt, but rather a flyer, a flyer for an activist movement Da-Zho had been trying to form for a few weeks now, the Ludines. A group to resist the control and limits of industrialization, to cherish and respect the beloved Earth that the factories would destroy, and to condemn the world leaders that wanted to do away with the sanctity of the old world.

"Thank you, Da-Zho. When I fight with this blade, it will be in your honor."

Da-Zho was humbled by the compliment. He was not one for excess and thanked the boy for his business.

Still, even the kindness of the boy could not break Da-Zho's mind from the impending Industrial Revolution. Something had to stop it, and he decided that it would have to be him.
