Kiirvon "Firebrand" Kir

Guard duty. Kiirvon hated it, and loathed the idea that guards were so often and carelessly injured. The military often was requisite to fill the gaps in poor circumstances, but in the end, this was her fault anyways. The alert had been raised that a vigilante killer was in town, after one of the nobles. Being so instilled with fear of their selfishly "big" lives, they called for stronger policing in the Caldera district of the Capital. It was despicable, yet not because of the usual reasons.

The truth was Firebrand was indeed in town, and had a specific noble in her sights. Everything had been carefully planned and "he" would've finally executed one of the most corrupt family head's in the Capital. But now, "he" was stuck on a strict guard duty, completely unable to leave post without about a half dozen superiors noticing... And on the other side of town from Firebrand's mark.

"Why, Kiirvon.. Why do you always mess up your priorities?" She leaned back against Caldera's gate, closed shut. She guessed it didn't matter if she did leave; her father would undoubtedly have changed locations and increased security. She couldn't find him, much less get passed too many mercenaries. A sigh of frustration left her lungs, her head leaning against the brick wall, blue eyes seeking guidance from the day's clouds. From beneath her crimson helmet, auburn locks clung to the wall in places.

"Guard duty... Is worse than trenches." Especially guarding those you should be threatening, her other side chided. She shrugged off the thought and kept her eyes skyward. Like anything would happen so close to Caldera, anyways....

Zevran Arianna Takeo

Offing that airbender in Gaoling had been an interesting fling in Zevran's storied history, but it was strictly business. He had told her too much, and the bounty had been rather decent. it was rare for him to off an airbender, but killing for Zevran was simply business as opposed to some kind of sick twisted pleasure. He was an assassin by trade.

His journey took him to Caldera City, which was always rich with killing targets. He didn't have a particular mark in mind this time, but he was discreet enough that people simply knew him as Zevran, as opposed to Zevran the killer. Still... he liked making things interesting, and so as he approached the gates, he took off at a run past several different guards and into the city. He did not have any visible weapons on him; just a bag that likely held some possessions; maybe a bit of money. There was no crime, unless trespassing was a crime, but he certainly might have looked suspicious given his crazy, lighthearted laughter, as well as his running speed.

Kiirvon "Firebrand" Kir

Some people were stupid; some were just plane crazy. This guy redefined one of the two, charging through what he thought were normal guards in attempt to break into Caldera. Surely he'd know why the gates were closed, were he planning business there as is. Then again... He wasn't Firebrand, so it'd be hard for him to be jailed.

Kiirvon barely even realized what was happening before he dashed past her, through the barely-opened gate. In her own surprise, she jumped and let out a little puff of smoke from her mouth. There wasn't much time to be embarrassed, she turned quickly on an armored heel and slipped through the gate. He sure as hell wasn't Firebrand, so what was he doing here? Then again... This was a perfect opportunity to leave her post, and possibly stay off for a bit.

But the man was too fast for her in her armor, either way. If she wanted to catch up, she had to lighten up. With a draw of her blade, flames licked from the edge in the motion, as if the blade itself had merely been hibernating in its sheath. The fire licked around her shoulders and hips, cutting the straps between plates and severing all but her breastplate. The pursuit begins, it would seem.Kiirvon was excited to get off duty... And maybe even get another chance.

Zevran knew nothing of this firebrand, and probably wouldn't care either unless there was something in it for him, or perhaps if it was a beautiful woman. Whatever the case, after sliding through the gate, he slowed his pace, simply wanting to get a rise out of a guard or two. While the other nations were more gender-equal than they were 80 yeras ago, the Fire Nation had sort of been the pioneers of such a motion, and so Zevran knew that not all of the guards would be male. He sort of hoped to find or woo a pretty lady, although wooing a man just to creep them out was not out of his list of possibilities himself.

sure enough, there was at least one guard chasing him, although he was far enough ahead that he could not tell its gender. the lack of a "hey! stop!" that most normal dumb guards would utter meant that this might have been someone above the usual 'lot.
Either way, he slowed down, allowing his pursuer to gradually catch up with him, for he had technically done nothing wrong apart from not check in at the gate or whatever. He was no criminal as far as anyone knew.

his laughing stopped a little, and he zigzagged down a couple of streets as if to lose his pursuer, but at the same time, he'd glance back to make sure they were still following him, letting his pace slow down a bit, because eventually, he did want to get 'caught', so to speak.

Kiirvon "Firebrand" Kir

This was strange to Kiirvon. The man was alternating his pace as he traversed each street. It was almost as if he didn't want to get away. Well Kiirvon was one to please, and kept pace with him, getting closer. Whatever ruse this was a part of meant little to nothing to Kiirvon. After all, at least on paper, she had a duty as a soldier to perform. Even if guard service seemed a little underkill, at least something interesting happened.

But thinking had no real place immediately; the time had come to catch up. As the suspect man turned the corner of a low building into the next street, Kiirvon leaped into the air, a concussive burst of heat projecting her just over the corner of the low building's roof. She almost didn't stick the landing on the other side, and had to do a controlled roll to keep herself from tumbling. She popped up to her feet and turned to face the man, katana held steady between them.

Her face was soft, with the only sharp feature being her jaw. Her body held little form, but much defined muscle; it was a warrior's body more than a woman's. Her eyes were locked straight onto the man's throat, keeping the rest of him in her peripheral. This was clearly no guard. "Cut the crap or I'll cut you down; Caldera is closed off." She held her stance, and her stern gaze.

[OOC--I call her a she so I can differentiate between her and Zevran when I use pronouns. so in other words, I know that she's a girl, but Zevran still doesn't]

Zevran Arianna Takeo

Having anticipated the guard catching up to him, he was prepared, even when she jumped right in front of his path. the moment it happened, he stopped with enough precision that he leaned backwards, flipping onto his hands before flipping back onto his feet. Immediately, he reached towards his legs and whipped out a pair of well-concealed daggers that blended win with his clothing. the handles did not look terribly hand-friendly, but he wore gloves, perhaps for this reason. His stance, however, was defensive, and he did not look like he wanted to attack.

His eyes widened, but it was out of interest rather than fear.
"Oh?" his voice had a suave charm to it, but didn't have that usually haughty touch that a lot of "suave" people usually had. He sounded confident, because he was confident at the moment. "what silly reason have the nobles chosen to close it up this time for?"
If anything, Zevran just thought the whole idea was silly. But, he was never one to come quietly. he was a menace in many groups, most of which were illegal, and many of which had been decimated because of him or his antics.

"if I am to be taken in by a fine young warrior such as yourself, then by all means take me." he smirked.

The man was prepared to stop in his own tracks. Curious, and somewhat disconcerting, but otherwise not pertinent to Kiirvon's orders. Her blade stayed level, completely still like a snake coiled before a strike. Her stance was odd, though; it was perfectly balanced but too indecisive between offensive and defensive. A keen eye could ascertain the signs of a self-taught swordsman, but she gave forth a disciplined tone, now, "A vigilante.. An assassin is on the loose."

She was used to the passes at her sex; she was one of few females in her unit. Still, flirtation in such a predicament was not canny. "It'd be wise to state your name and business, and wiser yet to drop your weapons." She kept her head. How could she use this situation to her advantage, anyways? Maybe this man's business had something to do with her father? No, that is far too great a shot to believe.

"And tell me that wasn't a challenge," more inviting than pleading. She wasn't really looking for a fight; this man had done nothing wrong, to her knowledge. Minus breaking the closure. And running from enforcement; though she didn't really announce her presence as an law enforcer. She hated guard du--

Head in the game, Kiiri. She stayed serious and ready; since this man had drawn weapons, after all.

"oooh." he grinned. "competition for the government then? I am sure that there are numerous vigilantes and assassins on the loose. Why should I cower behind closed doors because of someone that I myself do not fear?"
vigilantes, assassins, mercenaries, bounty hunters... he was familiar with those types of people, and sometimes even worked with them, so it was nothing new at all to him, let alone frightening.

"would it now?" he cooed. "ladies first."
one of the perks of being an assassin was that he was often assigned (or rather, volunteered) to do dirty work for nobility of any nation, settling feuds and ending rivalries the good old-fashioned cloak-and-dagger way.
Zevran thus did not sheathe his weapons right away, but did bring them closer to his body to make his intentions clearer. He wanted them out in case he needed to defend himself, as opposed to wanting to strike and attack. There was no bounty to be had in killing a guard, or even a soldier-turned-guard.

"a challenge? oh, no, no... I just assumed that you were here to exact the strong arm of the law upon me or something else. If that is not your intent, then aye, I do prefer freedom. These..." he glanced at his daggers, "are for defense. I am not here to attack anyone."

well... not yet anyways. But even then, he'd only be here to strike if he picked up a good mark. Otherwise, he'd just mind his business, which probably including wenches and mead.
he shook his golden hair out of his face, and waited to see how this soldier would react.

Kiirvon "Firebrand" Kir

The man was actually fairly attractive, and Kiirvon had to remind herself that it should be ignored. Clearly he had some more illicit activity in mind, but Kiirvon was just an acting guard, not actual law. She didn't care to do anything but her job, as far as anyone could see, at least.

Regardless, he made to lower his weapons, so Kiirvon did the same; not being a fool, though, she only partially sheathed her blade. A sliver of the edge still glinted in the sun while her sword hand rested lazily, but unwavering on the pommel. "It's not you that is of want to cower, but the nobles," a hint of distaste, then a small sliver of pride broke across her visage for a flash. "This vigilante has done some work here before, and they're afraid of him. They think closing the district would keep him trapped inside to find, or bar him out of the way. You barging in would raise a deal of suspicion of you and he being one and the same."

Of course it was crap to accuse him of being Firebrand.. But it could be useful.. No, it'd be uncanny, and would involve her too closely.. Her mind raced across some possibilities. Her body and mind would only grow calm once he holstered his blades, but still. You're thinking too much about it, again. You've lost your chance; now is time for patience, not careless action like last night. Shut up. She cut her mind off from thought, focusing on the present. "I'd advise, as an acting law enforcer, that you allow me to escort you out... Unless you're willing to share why you're here for a chance of a blind eye."

It was quite likely that Zevran had some sort of illicit activity in mind, but if he did, he would certainly not be that forward. Well, not without a bit of flirting anyways. The thing about Zevran's flirting is that most of it, if not all of it, was actually sincere. he was a flatterer yes, but at the same time, he was also simply an admirer of the human form, regardless of things like age and gender.

"oh? that does sound like someone I might know. Quite foolish for him if he's drawing attention to himself, unless he is trying to become a crimelord or something of the likes. Most of the smart ones lay low and keep cover. Does he had a name, by chance? I am not always the best at covers myself. Maybe it is me without me knowing! ha ha!"
he gave a hearty laugh, although asking for the name was an indicator, and fully, no less. He had no fancy name or title, other than his real name.

"I am here on business." he answered simply. "Meeting people, doing things... that sort. If the Fire Nation still holds grudges against the only nation that was able to stop their tyranny almost a century ago... then perhaps I've gone back in time."
No, he really didn't plan on going anywhere. If it turned into another chase, he wouldn't pace himself the way he had the first time; instead he would just take straight off.

This man must've thought a great deal of himself, or at least Kiirvon figured. Maybe he was just weird. Maybe he was crazy. You could relate. I said shut it.

She did, though, roll her eyes at his joke -almost instinctively-, "right, you're Firebrand. And no, they don't know who he is. And no, he's not trying to be a cri- you know what, it doesn't matter." She was a slight tone of flustered, now. This man annoyed him, and she didn't know why. She breathed to keep herself level-headed.

" 'Having business' isn't exactly an excuse that'll convince me to let you go before the guards get here." It was true that the real city police force was en route. The chase hadn't gone on -that- long. But Kiirvon was desperate to find a redemption for her moral choice the night before. If this guy's business could help her at least get away long enough to figure out where her target was. But part of her felt a little smugness boiling beneath her skin. This guy made her itch in the wrong places.

"Firebrand, huh?" Zeveran chuckled, "that's a silly name... better for a whiskey or perhaps an ancient fine wine... not a criminal. Nope... rest assured, my dear, he is not I."
his hands kept to his daggers, but should his adversary sheathe her weapon, he would comply and do the same. He simply did not want to get caught off-guard.

Zevran kept a level-head, mostly because he was not worried.
"well... most of my business includes killing, lovemaking, or witty retorts.. depending on where I am. If such things are not allowed in this fine city, then I do believe that I have come to the wrong place indeed. The killing part is a bit rarer--I am a wanted man among some criminal groups."

he stepped back a little (out of sword reach), sheathing his weapons fully again, where they disappeared right back into his clothing in the same camouflaging fashion as before. "but if the guards get here, what will they do? slap my wrist for running past them? There is incriminating evidence in front of me. I have neither killed nor maimed nor brought harm to anyone."
if nothing else, he might enjoy a good fight. But, he preferred peace to war, and so would try his diplomacy first.

Her eyes went somewhat narrow as he insulted her persona. He's blatantly shoveling dirt on our name! And he's admitting murder... Can we please kill this arse? Seriously, shut up or I'm burying the cloak again... Good.

"It's not very keen of you to say that at a time like this," she said, letting him get out of range. She sheathed the last inch of her blade, letting the handle out of her grip for now. "Admitting to being a killer threats not only the law's hand, but the vigilante's as well. And as an aside, no... Killing is still frowned upon in Capital City."

"As far as the guards go, I'm sure they'd inconvenience you were they to find you. Do your plans include being jailed pending investigation? You know these nobles would be paranoid enough to make it happen... Unless you have a favor." She was relaxed, though mentally prepared. This man kept dancing around her questions and intimations. It was getting pretty annoying. "I still haven't heard a good reason to get you out of the way of inconvenience, so if you don't care to speak one," she pulled a pair of solid shackles from her belt. "If you'd prefer it to the blade, of course."

Zevran kept his calm. "well, I must confess that I have no concern for the well-being of this vigilante whatsoever. Most of the people I kill are people wanted by the law anyways, and so I am simply doing them a favor for the bounties. It may be something I am good at, but killing is not something I revel in doing. It is simply business.

"ah... nobles are such fickle creatures though. They are some of my best clients too... those that know me know what I do, and know that I do it well... I have... a loyal customer base here in Caldera, you might say. 'Tis why I am here for business. There is always a rivalry to decimate, an old score to settle, or something else along those lines."

he shook his head. "No, I very much prefer freedom, thank you.It seems like you do as well for you to so eagerly shirk your post. I think we could get along fairly well."
Underneath Zevran's playful and taunting attitude... was the same type of light, free-spirited man that he was showing off. This was no alternate persona. Zevran was just a cheerful person overall, and it was frustrating to a few. He had his moments when he was serious, but they were often more intimate than anything.

Kiirvon "Firebrand" Kir

Rude, he-. Quiet... I have a plan. Oh, that's go-. No, it's stupid, so go back to your little dark corner of my mind. "Like you, killing isn't something I enjoy." That, at least, was true. It was one of the origins to Firebrand becoming... Part of Kiirvon. "Introductions can wait, but I think I'd like to tag along on your business. In exchange for not turning you over. If you're worried, know that I can keep discreet, too. And I'm no guard, and my own agenda requires my presence in the city as well."

If he was telling the truth, then he might indeed have connections with the corrupt nobles here. But if he figured with sureness she was not only Firebrand, but what Firebrand did to his clients, he might not be up for such a ride... Or he'd get more work. Wonder if he'd take that gamble if it came to it. "Surely, if you're so acquainted with the city, you have a hideout here where we can discuss this further..." She had one, frankly, though it took little thought to know that neither of them would likely reveal such secrets. She knew her mistakes could not risk the expense of even more resources. This had to be played carefully.

The sound of heavy boots became audible nearby. "A haven, maybe? What will it be? I'd rather not go back to post."

Zevran Arianna Takeo

Zevran smiled, leaning towards her and lowering his voice to a whisper. His hands stayed in plain sight, and his weapons were sheathed still.
"my dear, if I were worried, I would not have let you catch me." he winked before pulling his head back from her ear.
"I don't enjoy killing, but that does not mean I do not like it. Business is business, regardless."
Zevran did have connections as a sleazy hitman, so to speak.Granted, he also had a record with the ladies, and noblewomen were some of his favorites. He did not speak of that much other than vaguely referenced when he brought up lovemaking.

"I have many hideouts, you might say." he quipped, "although if you know what is good for you, it'd be best to not try to threaten me, for those are usually not taken well. Now... bribes, favors... those I like. It is an easier way to win me over. Follow me."
His tone was still upbeat as ever, although he instantly turned on his heels and took off through the city after saying 'follow me'. He would make the journey at a slight jogging pace. He was heading for a tavern near the shadier part of town known as "The Warden Princess". He wasn't sure how it got its name, but he had a suite there that he semi-regularly occupied, and it was away enough from private eyes.

If he lost her... well, that would keep the law off of his back for a while, but if not, he'd lead her there safely and soundly and hopefully without any trouble.

Kiirvon "Firebrand" Kir

He leaned in close, making the young soldier girl reel in a hint of both surprise, and distaste. She cared little for physical proximity to those she'd only just met, much less trusted, though she was little in the respects of options given her position. It looked like she'd have to trust this strange, obviously unlawful man. In any case was her darker side- no, was she herself any different? Only in that her less ideal persona was compartmentalized away, hidden as a mask in a drawer. Sometimes it felt the other way about.

Resisting all screaming urges to draw at his dangerous -though lax- closeness, she let herself relax just before he drew away. As far as killing went, it was only honesty if she'd said she feared it. Perhaps because a part of her did thrive on it, in a way. Firebrand was dangerously close to being more than just a mindset.

"I am not one for bribes, and my favors lack sexual inclinations, so do mind that, yourself." She more so wanted to make the boundaries of this new-found, temporary acquaintance clear. However, it needn't be worded that other favors wouldn't be off the table, were things to turn favorably.

Then he was off, quick as lightning after requesting her to follow. He wasn't pacing himself this time about, but Kiirvon had a certain command of speed herself. It was enough to stay just a stride or two away from the stranger's Heels. It never really occurred to her that no names, nor pasts were brought to surface.

It was likely for the better, though as a whole this was perhaps the riskiest choice the Soldier made Vigilante had chanced in a long while. It rose the tempo in her ribcage.

Zevran Arianna Takeo

One advantage Zevran had was that it was hard to be ambiguous to him, because he either viewed someone as a friend or as an enemy. It was difficult to tell how much he liked or disliked someone though, becuase he tended to treat them almost the same way.
"ho ho..." he chuckled coyly, "I shall mind myself perfectly well. you need not worry about me."
No, for as flirty and forward as he often was, he had and knew his limits, and did not often overstep them. If he recognized that he was moving into dangerous territory, he'd back out. as charming as he was, he was also clever. It was basically required if he was skirting the law the way he sometimes did.

he only looked back a total of two times during his trip to the tavern of choice. he entered with his usual walking style, seating himself at the bar and slapping a couple of coins on the table for a drink. upon obtaining the bottle, he glanced around for his friend (as he would say, anyways, though he used the term lightly quite often).

"my suite is up these stairs," he indicated, walking up them. "2nd door on your right."

without waiting once again, he headed up the stairs with a calm aura about him, entering his old suite, kicking back on one of the larger chairs, and popping the bottle open. This is what she would be greeted with upon entering, should she follow him.

Firebrand

If nothing else, at least he seemed to respect her wishes on this. Perhaps, like she, this Outlaw had a reputable side. He also had a knack of never giving ground; rather he gave too much of it as he sped beyond her non-bending abilities to match. She had sight of him just as he entered the supposed haven, and she gratefully followed suite.

As a soldier, running with armor, weapons and ought else in equipment was nothing strange. So having kept a swift pace without all but her blade, boots and belt packs was no true ordeal, but she still took a few deep breaths just beyond the door to rejuvenate.

Just as reliably impatient -or uncaring- as he was quick, her new 'friend' had taken to the stairs with just a brief mention of his suite. Little choice in consideration of her goals, she took after him-- unfastening the largest of packs by the time she hit the last step, shifting cannily into his room.

The red cloth fit quickly and easily over her shoulders and head. The material was thin for packing and was stitched with facemask and hood alike. The latter required a barren head, so she dismissed her helm to specific clips below the same, largest pack at the curve of her back. There it was well hidden behind the half-cloak. All that really remained was the steel-plated, leather boots. A practiced series of motions brought the quickly-detached plates to a rest in the cloak's usual abode.

With a relieved sigh, facemask being brought over the bridge of her nose, "A relief to be off guard duty." Her voice almost took on a different tone. A great deal huskier and androgynous than previous. It was no real threat, she figured, of him to work the pieces together. Since he'd only learned of her nature as a sort-of guard, and not her name, it wouldn't quite be another arrow in his quiver at this point. It was already transparent, that she was anything but on the straight and narrow. Especially now that she was in character.

Zevran Arianna Takeo

Speed and finesse were only two of Zevran's many talents. he had not even shown any signs of bending abilities yet, and figured that he wouldn't need to. He was a talented man in many ways, but he was not a show-off unless asked to be. He wore light armor himself and seemed to have a few concealed weapons on his person, but overall, it appeared that he travelled light, and his speed was an indicator of why.

It was not necessarily that Zevran was impatient; he simply did not see a need to cater to the whims of someone that could potentially be his enemy, even if it was something as simple as slowing down. friendship--or at least some form of trust--was required before he would care too much about someone else's wants. Although after that line was passed, he usually started caring quite sincerely.

Even an idiot would have noticed the dramatic changes in appearance that had transitioned between entering the tavern and entering Zevran's suite, and Zevran was no idiot.
"oh? so what have we here then? Cloak and dagger games? masquerades? Why was I not informed of this?" he quipped with his usual smile.
"I take it you want something or need something then." he nodded, taking a swig from his bottle. "that is usually why people come chasing me, yes?"
It was a rather true statement, incidentally. people usually either wanted him for some trespass or something, or wanted his services. Otherwise, he mostly stuck to the shadows and was out of sight; out of mind.

he had made himself comfortable already, kicking the door closed after his comrade had passed the threshold before he had sat down.
"so... what will it be then?" he asked, sounding curious.

The discomfort, this idiotic choice, the strange man who was yet untrusted. None of it seemed to be putting the young woman on edge anymore. She seemed relaxed, though it was more difficult to ascertain beneath the blood-colored cloth over her face and torso.

"Oh, please," that husky voice, "daggers are hardly my taste." An elbow gently nudged the hilt of her katana, making the blade clatter ever so dully inside the sheath. "As you've seen."

Propping herself against the wall, boot heel drumming the wood softly inches from the floor, she scoffed at the idea of a masquerade. Kiirvon, however, might thrive in such a lax environment; Firebrand could take advantage of it. Either way, "certainly, toting among dozens of visage-masked nobles would fail to tantalize us, lest we had business to."

"I wasn't quite seeking you, but we happened upon each other. What you need to know is that I'm looking for someone. Considering your mention of work with the upper class here in Caldera, I was hoping to get some information from you. If you know a thing or two."

Previously warm, ice-blue eyes had become more kin in the color's temperature. It was a long shot to say this was a second personality. That wasn't it. All Kiirvon had done was create a state of mind which made her capable of what needed to be done. She didn't enjoy it, but spited it... It was her necessary hypocrisy: threatening and taking lives to save or improve others.

All that seemed worthy of aspiration seemed to require a hypocrite to accomplish. It was rather cold, and cruel. Sometimes Kiirvon wished she could stop to worry if more holes had been punched into the boat than mended. It wasn't the time to worry about it, though.

There never seemed to be time for such introspect.

"well." he chuckled. "someone's tastes are lacking then. Daggers are simple, yet effective... but I would never part ways with Koume and Kotake... so do not worry about me trying to sell you anything." he whipped out his trusty daggers simply to brandish them before sheathing them again. Often times he did not keep them so hidden, but they worked well with what he did. He did not try to impress, but was instead honest in his dealings, which made his line of work seem almost ironic.

"us?" he raised an eyebrow, "I did not know there were more of you? unless you were referring to the you and me collective, as unlikely as that may seem..."

although once business came up, that was Zevran's primary focus. He might have shifted the other things out of the forefront of his mind, but they were still there. Zevran was not quick to forget things.
"I know a great many things." he nodded. "and for a price I tell them... or locate and eliminate them."
he was flexible on said prices, and did not bring them up because of that, instead preferring that his clients give him offers. He was honest in his work, but only did what he was paid to do--so if his pay was very little, he gave very little in return. It was a simple scheme.

he took another swig. His life was good as far as he was concerned. He only killed if he was defending himself or if he had been contracted to do so. He was armed almost all the time because there were plenty of people that wanted him gone. Fortunately for Zevran, most of these people were doing illegal things on their own, and so they could not turn to the state or the guards to help them eliminate this waterbender.

He did wonder why this girl was trying to be someone else, for Zevran was not convinced. Maybe he had an edge for knowing who this alter-ego was, but at the same time, the more he watched and listened to her, the less convincing it seemed to become to him. Maybe it was the beer, but he had only had a couple shots of it, and he could stomach far more than that. Either way, he waited to see if he would get made an offer or not.

"A bit too simple, I'd say," she retorted, but wouldn't care enough to push it further. She figured he wasn't a salesman, it was the clearest thing yet he'd said.

He seemed to have missed her remark, though, "You and I. Do you see anyone else here? I was merely stating that I assume neither of us would be caught so easily at a masquerade. Either way, though.." The man seemed to get into immediate focus when she mentioned the business at hand.

"I wouldn't need you to kill the target. Just need to know where he is. Do you know anything about Matsuda, Hideki? He's a noble and a bussinessman in war, and I need to know where his hideout is." With this, she pulled a golden piece of the Fire Nation [I have no clue how much the currencies are in TLA, though ><]. "And what answer will this get me?"

It was half the money she had. She spent so much as it was on information and other resources. And she knew this was expensive information, given it was ratting out a Noble's discreet location, and from a man with no prior credibility, no less.

This plan seemed dumber by the minute, but Firebrand refused to let the past weeks of preparation to go to waste for what could be months, or even years more if her father made out to move business elsewhere on top of increasing his security; he was already paranoid about Firebrand, she knew this much.

"caught at one? oh certainly not. One does not simply 'catch' me." he grinned. "but I would certainly attend one. I found my last mark at one, no less. it was quite a romantic little fling... well, before she was eliminated, that is. alas... business is business."

he fake-sighed, but then returned to the subject at hand.
"as a matter of fact, I do. I have worked for him a few times, no less. he pays good coin."
Zevran was impartial to what his clients did with their lives. He was not a very judgmental person at all, as long as they kept their judgment of him behind closed doors. If they were sleazeballs or connivers or saints and angels, Zevran did not care. That was not his business. [well, they use yuans in ATLOK, but "gold pieces", "silvers", and "coppers" are generally acceptable.]

he raised his eyebrows at the large gold piece. "a great deal. at least for now." he nodded, "He's a backdoor businessman who lingers around a certain few shady taverns sometimes." he gave the names of some (but not all) of the places that Zeevran had either seen this man at, or had been contracted by him at. Giving away everything at once would spoil the fun.
"and the things he deals with are some of his skeletons in his closet. exposing the business would hurt him... among other things."
he stopped there, mostly to prevent himself from rambling aimlessly. Sure her payment could get her more if she asked, but Zevran did not want to become Mister Motormouth. With the way he managed his own affairs, he was something of a businessman himself, and he enjoyed the money that came from it.
