General Mei Fong

Mei Fong, lost?

Reported to be.

Elsewhere?

Wounded?

...Dead...

Missing.

The lies a man would tell to defend his own disappearance, the rumors that spread like wildfire, setting the minds of benders and non-benders alight, trying to understand why the General had left? A proposal was on the wind, who cared? A man was missing. It was a chosen path, his place in this life. In truth, he couldn't recall where he was or what he'd been doing. Having shed his usual military attire for something simpler, he was still a striking figure of a man. His hair was disheveled, but maintained, clean. His frame was the same, built strong.

But where...?

His eyes opened to sunlight, laying on his back, hands gently digging into the soil, sitting up. What happened? His mouth tasted bitter, he still couldn't recall why. Easing his way onto his feet, he wandered toward the road. A proposal of a fool, perhaps. He thought on that for a time, proposing without even a hint of an inclination of what he intended to do. He smiled lightly, what had changed?

He brushed his pants off, and smoothed back his hair as best he could. And how did he get there? He glanced around, turning onto the well traversed path, walking aimlessly toward a place he'd forgotten about. His head hurt, but he found no lumps to identify an attack. Sword was in place, dagger as well. Smelling the fresh morning air, the dew fresh on the wind. He didn't know why, picking up his pace, he broke into a short jog that turned into a flat out sprint.

He felt like a child, shooting forward suddenly on jets of flame, spiralling in the air. He felt invigorated, and refreshed, tugging upward suddenly. His ascent was quick, up and up, a good thousand feet, and then he just dropped, closing his eyes as the fall brought a whistling to his ears, jerking upward, flying forward again before dropping and sliding to a halt.

Now, where to?

Zulera Joanna Tallarico

Chaos was truly a remarkable entity that could perchance be viewed as the most powerful force in existence. It was disorder. it was chance. it was coincidence. it was entropy. It was also the very nature of the current Avatar--the one word that could perfectly describe her and her erratic behavior. Not even Zulera's mother Zurok, in all her wisdom and cunning, understood everything that Zulera did.

Finding where in the world she had wandered to was almost entirely up to chance, as she had no real pattern of where she would go. Even when she got herself lost, she always seemed to find her way back.
To hear a tale that the Avatar had left and gone wandering would just get you laughed at. she disappeared so often that she was considered a nomad. It was true that she had multiple homes and/or friends that she would crash with, so she roamed freely.

as she wandered aimlessly, the soles of her feet enjoying the texture of the ground around them, she noticed a peculiar sight. there was a firebender out in the distance, and, after squinting, she had a possible idea of who it was.

at the same time, she did not aim for his current position. she aimed for where he was going. after casual walking, she was soon nearly face to face with him. Was it fate? was it chance? who knew?

"Well..." she laughed after recognizing the face as she leaned her head back to look up at him. She hadn't grown in inch, after all. This face would be a hard one to forget anyhoo.
"well shit me a symphony!" she exclaimed. "Mei!?"

General Mei Fong

The real question was: Where not to? It had been far too long, and Mei needed a nice refresher course in the state of things. Hell, considering he appeared to have lost his military uniform, he might just live a year or two as a wild man who scares travelers with magnificent displays of fire's power. Oh, and why was he feeling so energetic? At 33 years old, he ought to be feel a tad bit...older, right? Wrong, sunlight, the life's blood of firebending was seeping into his soul, churning the flames that brightened his spirit.

Oh, but what was that? Keen to the goings-on around him, his gaze turned to the last person he'd ever expect to see, for a moment wearing the oddest expression ever before wiping it away. Perhaps is was his time doing whatever it was he was doing, but seeing sent conflicted emotions rolling through him. Of all people, who else would be most surprised to have heard he was missing? Was he missing? Oh, and Shula? He shuddered, after that deplorable Mako Incident, he'd heard she'd gone and turned ice cube on the whole country, but how long ago was that? Months? Heaven forbid it, years? Oh boy, could he have lost years of his life?

He snapped back to it, smiling in the simplest of fashions, inclining his head, though turning it into an exaggerated bow, his right hand sweeping across the ground as he rose, the sun conveniently illuminating his silhouette, "The one and only, though I hardly think such a request is possible, my lady. How've you been?" And since when did this cocky personality take over? Mei dug around through memory and failed to find a determining factor that could have morphed his once humble charm into...well...this. He was storming through his own mind, refinement, refinement, where are you?

Bah, dash it all, maybe the sun was playing tricks on him, making a little too confident.

Zulera Joanna Tallarico

Zulera wasn't exactly sure where Mei had been or what had addled with his head, but she also similarly could not bring herself to care. She wasn't a mind reader, and some things just didn't seem very important for her to waste her time trying to figure out.

"I've been the same as before." she chuckled. "getting into the same old mischief as before. Mom even gave me a couple more tattoos."
she paused, putting her gloved hands together. even with them on, on the ring of her left hand was the very same ring Mei had given her months ago. Based on her mood and demeanor at the moment it was hard to tell how she felt about all of that now, but then again, Zulera enjoyed keeping people guessing, which was why she purposely did not say where she had gotten her new tattoos.

"So... what are you doing out here... where are you going?" This was one place where she was somewhat hypocritical, as she liked to know things. However, she also didn't mind turning it into a guessing game. Similarly, she might not have even minded taking her shirt off, but that was neither here nor there at the moment. First of all, she wanted to see what had addled Mei so far to the point where he straight-up fell off the map for such a long time, only o return acting like a slightly inebriated fool.

General Mei Fong

Mei took a few moments, briefly forgetting that he was in a conversation as he dug through his pockets in hopes of finding some evidence as to where the hell he'd been. As he rummaged, he discovered nothing, it seemed impossible that he'd been gone for any period of time without remembering any of it. Glancing toward the Avatar, then to the area around them, he sighed lightly.

"Same as before...", he repeated in a far away tone, sounding quite displeased, "New tattoos..." Then he turned toward where he'd woken up, scratching the back of his head, muttering a stream of curses at no one and nothing in particular. He glanced back again, looking as though he was in distress, and then frustrated. Deep in thought, he was still desperately trying to recall what had happened to him, had he been abducted? He turned in a full circle, looking at his feet, and body, glancing at Zul, then back out at the wilderness.

To be quite fair, Mei was on the very brink of losing it, having no recollection of who he'd been with, where he'd been, what he'd been doing, why he'd been doing it, or how long he'd been missing, it was enough to make him nervous, angry, confused, excited, and depressed all at once. Falling off the map intentionally was one thing, but to have your last memory be of talking with Zul, massages, and a bit more, in fact, this was the first time he'd recalled the ring, and what little color was in his features drained away. He tried to speak, but his voice was absolutely jumbled. He stopped, turning away again, raising his right hand up, placing his thumb against his right temple, while using his index and middle finger to do the same to his left, massaging them in deep, slow circles. His left hand was firmly planted on his hip, and his breaths came slow, and far between.

In all his years, never had such helplessness been present in his thoughts, that any force could take him away from his life without even granting him the proper memories to know where he'd been was awe-inspiring, and terrifying. No person, beast, or spirit deserved that power. It dawned on him that he likely deserved a good thrashing for having vanished when a wedding plan had begun unfolding though he doubted it would happen. With Shula, however, yes, he'd likely be getting into trouble for disappearing, particularly when he told her, same as he said to Zul at that moment, "I don't remember where I've been...or what I've been doing, I don't know where I'm going..." He let his own words sink in, slowly kneeling down, running his fingers through his hair, a broken, haggard laugh escaping him, "The last thing I remember...was the ship...and then...nothing...it's just gone..."

He shook his head, closing his eyes, "Damn...it's almost like...I ceased to exist...and now I exist again."

Zuzu was no mind reader, so he didn't know the half of what might have been going on iin his mind. all she knew was that here he was, after months of unexplained and unexcused absence. However, she, and the world, had gone on in his absence. Zulera was not exactly one to stay still.

What did that mean though? it just meant that Zulera's crazy hijinks and high-flying shenanigans had gone on. it meant nothing regarding her sexual life, however.
She was kind of at a loss, not really knowing what to say or how to react. she stared somewhat skeptically down at Mei, before sitting down in front of him.

"I'm at a loss." she shook her head. "I don't know what to make of that, or of your escapades... or anything in between." she shrugged.

And then left to his thoughts, he glanced around one last time before deciding that he was totally and utterly incapable of remembering what he'd experienced. So, as far as that was concerned, it would always be a source of worry for him. Now, to the matters at hand, back where he belonged from where ever he'd been, he let his gaze wander around, eventually turning toward Zul. Looking up at her, he briefly bit back a chuckle, in some odd way, he very much enjoyed the position he'd been in. The way she stared at him was warranted, he'd never say the same for her if their situations had been reversed, it was, after all, men that were stereotypically known for going off and having sexual escapades, not women. Least of all Zulera, the woman he could always expect to disappear randomly, and turn up in the same manner, nearly looking the same as she had looked when she'd left him.

But now...

He had no excuses, though he had a strong hunch that he'd been loyal, if nothing else, that could never be broken without breaking his will, he prided himself on his ability to remain loyal to someone or something. He let himself relax, sinking into a sitting position. He let his hands rest on his knees, scanning over her silently, he was glad to find his self control was undamaged. At her words, he paused, mulling them over for a time. "Just as anyone would be.", he said in a solemn wise tone. Escapades, it made him sound like he'd been up to no good, who knows, maybe he had been. He fixed his gaze on the ground, "You look well.", for once, he realized he hadn't added a sultry yet classy follow-up comment, to his own surprise, he felt no desire to. Perhaps he was regaining control, "Forgive me, know I'd never abandon this world, or you, in particular, on purpose. Your skepticism is warranted, and well deserved, I have no excuses, and I cannot excuse whatever disreputable behavior I engaged in while I was...gone."

"Did I miss anything?"

Zulera laughed. "a lot of things, I would reckon. time flies by without waiting and without remorse. if you are asking about me personally though, there has been little out of the ordinary I say. Just my typical adventures and mischief, really."

Zulera crouched down in front of him as well, still with mixed feelings about this whole shindig. she glanced from him, down to the ring that was still on her finger, given to her by him however long ago that had been. She wondered what had happened with that.
"so apart from a nigh-unsolvable mystery..." she continued, "I think we should look to the present. what do you plan on doing now?"
she looked again back to her ring as if thinking to herself, before looking back at him, waiting for his response.

General Mei Fong

Mei sat quietly, perhaps he had little to say, or had no real way of saying it. A similar warmth blossomed in his chest after a few moments, he realized time could not ravage his feelings, a small comfort when he was at a loss at to where he was. At the least his drive and reasoning for decisions were the same. "Saying 'typical adventures' really does tone down the madness that is usually wound into your adventures.", he commented quietly.

And as she kneeled in front of him, he had the strangest feeling that this had happened before. And then there it was, a smile was on his face, "You look magnificent in this lighting.", he said. The familiar taste of honesty melded with flirting. Then his eyebrow went up, he followed her gaze, like drawing an invisible line through the air. He blinked, quietly contemplating his answer, "Maybe I'll keep off the grid. That freedom I wanted is with me right now. Fire Lord Shula will find a suitable replacement for me." He laid back, "Start a family...", he added with a meaningful look up at her. "That is, if the woman I had in mind was still interested. Otherwise I'll become a hermit, and live in the mountains somewhere."

Zulera Joanna Tallarico

Zulera couldn't help but chuckle softly once again. "the things I do could fill volumes." she confessed truthfully. Hers was a storied life, and a great deal of it was encoded in the tattoos that she had all over her back, shoulders, hands, and arms, with the exception of the middles of her arms around the elbows. Each line; each emblem, each symbol... they all had a meaning and a story. She had not received them all at once, after all. Initially she had just had the one central Water Tribe Emblem on her back. Now though, her shirt and her gloves covered up her tattoos quite nicely.

"No." she instantly shook her head. "don't go away again. We've talked about a family before, and that is exactly what I want... but I can't. I just can't... disappear. The world needs me."
This was one of the few lies that Zulera told, although it technically was a not even a lie. Zulera's meaning was different, however. She needed the world in order to play her games, and the idea of living in isolation didn't sit well with her. She enjoyed being left to her own devices, but it was knowing that she had access to whatever she wanted, that helped motivate her.
"I do want to start a family though... I just don't want it to be away from... well, everything. I am one who runs, but not one who hides, unless it is in plain sight. I... if we did start a family... would you run away again?"

Clearly Zulera was not one to take this subject lightly, and if she were to get her heart broken, it would be a black day indeed.

Mei nodded once in absolute agreement, smiling softly. And he couldn't argue with that, her life was far more colored than any he'd ever seen or heard of. The funniest part was that he only knew a fraction of her history. Though he knew what it looked like, artistically.

"Disappearing with you would be as close to eternal paradise as I could come up with." Mei didn't let the sigh escape his lips, he knew well enough what she meant, but he wasn't going to say she was lying. In a way the world did need her, no one else would make mischief in her place. "Yes, I remember, quite well in fact." He let the comment hang in the air for a little while, that was all he really needed to say on the topic. "I'm glad that hasn't changed. It all depends upon how you choose to see it, I have had quite a large fill of the world." His gaze changed, and he frowned, "No. I didn't choose to run away Zulera.", he said, his tone sharp, "I still love you, as much as the day I disappeared."

Zulera's tattoos extended onto her shoulders but not enough to be seen from her sleeves, and those armored gloves on her forearms and hands also covered new tattoos. It would just mean that she would have to wear long sleeves if she ever went to a formal event. She wouldn't mind that, really.

"well... if we could violate the laws of reality, I'd be happy to oblige... but you know... reasons prevent it and such."
She was not trying to make that sound sarcastic, because the idea was alluring if reality wouldn't come along and rear its ugly head. She'd have to settle for what she got.

she threw her arms around him quietly. She wasn't crying, but this was clearly an emotional moment.
"then stay with me..." she whispered softly. "forever..."
and already, the idea of marriage was dancing playfully through her mind, tickling all of Zulera's little cute fancies.
