Vastorum Rex

If he was being honest with himself, Rex would conclude that his journey so far had been utter crap. So far, he'd encountered very few interesting people, none of which he'd had a conversation with. Although, that was most likely because he'd developed a tendency of attacking them. Thankfully, he was being honest with himself, so that's exactly what he concluded. The young fellow's campaign had sent him back to Gaoling, somewhere he'd always been hopelessly in love with. The sight of the sprawling estates on the outskirts caused a bullet of nostalgia to bolt towards him, rooting itself firmly in his chest. He'd sighed, and happily pranced along, eager to see the rest of the town which awaited him.

However, the arms of home had deserted him, and Rex soon found himself nearing the center of the town. His pace had reduced to a slow trod, and his cape had almost surrounded him, like a curtain. Although if anyone dared to pull it back they'd be given a face full of air. Rex wasn't going to risk anything, he'd observed that thievery became less of a rarity the further into a town he ventured, Rex had learnt that the hard way. The young lad growled, having been reminded of his lack of currency. As of late, he'd been sleeping outside of cities, usually in some isolated tavern's stable. It was difficult, but Rex had gotten used to it.

Another advantage of isolated inns were that it was incredibly easy to commit various crimes. There were multiple occasions on which Rex had broken into a kitchen in the dead of night, scoffed some food and then taken off back into the stables. He'd been caught before, but that was never a problem, they usually assumed he was simply a poor lad down on his luck, and even if they didn't, it was never too difficult for him to pacify them. There was one time when he'd entered an inn empty of lodgers, beaten up the staff and then forced the cook to make him a three course meal! Rex didn't particularly feel any guilt in doing this, they were after all, beneath him, and they probably deserved it.

Rex finally arrived at the center of Gaoling, in the middle was a grand statue. Well, he'd seen better in his father's estate, but for the slums of Gaoling, it was pretty good. It featured several dolphinsharks, all of which appeared to be coming out of the water, raising their heads towards the sky. In the middle stood a bearded man, grasping a spear and a trident. The dolphinsharks and the odd man were surrounded by a large pool of water, the pool itself seemed to be made of marble, and had a large wall of the said marble around it, allowing people to sit next to the pool. Taking advantage of the wonderful service, Rex did so, taking care not to let his cape drop into the water below.

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Poor meets the Privileged    The Poor meets the Privileged EmptySun Jan 06, 2013 2:42 am

There were many issues with taking up permanent residence at an inn, first and foremost being the required payment required by the innkeeper. Oh, nothing perverse. At least not directly. Every night, she was forced to wear a ridiculous leather apron and tunic, smelling of what could only be described as pungent cow, and serve the drunken louts who frequented the tavern. And these fools had wandering hands. More than once she was forced to - politely yet sternly - warn a customer that if they were to touch her in such a way again, they would lose that hand. They must leered at her and told her "relax, darling."

Crouched on top of the giant statue of the Old Man of the Sea, her eyes narrowed in irritation as she made a noise in the back of her throat. "Fools and idiots." A cruel smile twisted her face as she remembered what she did to the last drunk who touched her in a way she did not approve of. 'He wasn't using his fingers for anything productive anyway. Hmph.' Slowly, she stood up, stretching the kinks out of her body. As the sun caught her, a corona of rainbow light cascaded off her body. To any casual observers, it would seem as if the sun itself was resting on the head of the Old Man of the Sea.

With a sigh, she glanced down, judging the distance. She cracked her knuckles slowly. Then, she jumped. As she did so, wind currents whipped around her; before she hit the ground, they slowed her descent enough that she didn't splat. Yet as she hit, the water in the fountain blasted outwards, soaking anybody nearby with a huge wave of water and leaving her absolutely dry, the wind whipping around her protecting her against the water. She straightened, her eyes - like sapphires frozen in a lake of fire - narrowing as she looked around, a delicate hand, black fingernail polish obvious, rested on a silver blade on her hip. Slowly, she stepped out of the now-empty fountain, the brown tunic and skirt, travel worn, stretching as she did so.

Vastorum Rex

For the most, Rex was far too enthralled with his own thoughts to notice a young girl atop the fountain. He did, however exit the grip of isolation for a moment, allowing him to hear a slight cracking behind him. That sound had become familiar to him, given the amount of fights he entered into one way or another. As such, he immediately swung around, preparing to see an innkeeper or another person he'd 'wronged'. Instead, he saw a torrent of blue shooting straight towards him. In a moment of clarity, Rex concluded that this was not going to end well for him, yet what could he do?

Actually, it transpired that he could do quite a bit about it, as he soon found himself diverting the water around him, parting it by grandly throwing his arms backwards, throwing his head down, just in the unfortunate event that any water would escape and leap into his eye. Once the cascade had passed him, he lifted his head once again, an infuriated snarl plastered on his face. "What the hell do you think you're..." His voice trailed off when he got a good look at the figure in front of him. Not that Rex actually cared who it was, he was just caught off guard.

Standing before him was a young lady, she seemed around his age, and clearly quite a bold person. She had a certain dangerous air about her, accentuated by the rather impressive sword on her hip, and the black polish that adorned her fingernails. Rex really hadn't seen anything quite like her before, the black hair especially. It actually made him feel quite self conscious, he decided to shoot a slight breeze past his legs, causing his cape to dance in the wind ever so slightly. Reminding himself to 'play it cool'. He spoke up. "And you are?"

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Poor meets the Privileged    The Poor meets the Privileged EmptyMon Jan 07, 2013 2:03 am

Her head snapped up, sapphire eyes narrowed in as she peered through the brightness to the source of the voice. As her eyes adjusted to the sun and saw the boy who - like most others - towered over her. She suppressed a flicker of irritation. Even though she was fifteen years of age and of marrying age, a man would not look twice at her, as she looked like a child. With a height of only four foot seven, even children looked down on her, literally speaking. Her eyes focused onto his; blue stared into hazel for a brief second.

Then the contact was broken as, with a twirl, she spun around. Around her thin hip was a beautiful belt, like the night sky woven into cloth. It shimmered with a dark beauty as the sun caught it, the black night and silver stars contrasting beautifully. Her hand fell from her hip, caressing her thigh, clad in white cotton leathers. Her thumb lifted the thigh length skirt to reveal a golden sheath and a bronze pommel, belonging to a short sword. A curtain of black silky hair, flowing to her waist and ending with a flip, shielded her back from view.

Sharp features looked over her shoulder as she perched on the edge of the fountain. Words, low and musical, spoke out. "I am Yuhi." Then she began walking towards the center of town, her hair swinging back and forth as she walked. She had a very graceful walk, hinting at equal grace in other aspects of life.

Vastorum Rex

Admittedly, Rex found himself more than slightly distracted by this strange, new woman. She had an elegance that spoke of experience, despite her age, which Rex found hard to believe was over say, fifteen. Rex smirked to himself. This holiday may just be getting interesting. Despite his remark, the boy still felt quite outclassed, he barely even noticed her height until a few moments had passed, he was just quite captivated. She didn't walk, she glided, danced across whatever approached. Rex reviewed the way conducted himself, all he did was plod along, looking angry. And her eyes, they were just so captivating, they practically shone with pure grace. Whereas in his opinion, Rex's eyes were simply murky and polluted, hardly a clear pool like hers was. Feeling significantly more depressed, yet also intrigued, he elected to follow, after all, he needed something to busy himself with, and why not a mysterious young lady?

Still appearing indifferent, he trailed behind her. "Yuhi, right. May I ask where you're from? I really don't mean to, um, intrude or anything. But you seem different from everyone else I see on my travels. What with your black hair and your...eyes. You're hardly the standard Earth Kingdom citizen." He gestured to himself, he was after all, pure Earth Bender. At least, he thought he was. His point however, still stood, aside from his clothing, Rex at first looked your typical Earth Kingdom lad, a trait he'd inherited from his father. His short brown hair matched his boring, brown eyes. He was however, quite a skinny guy, which was odd when compared with the rest of his siblings, who were wide-shouldered giants. "I'm Rex, by the way." He ungracefully blurted out.

"Of course I do not look like an earth bender. I am not one." She scoffed, flicking her hair backwards, just so happening to hit Rex in the face with it. Yuhi was, despite herself, interested in this young man. There was something she could see in him, past his mundane appearance. It was as if he promised adventure. And Yuhi ... well, Yuhi loved adventure. For the first time in her life, Yuhi felt, to her horror, her cheeks flush as the man surveyed her with an intense expression.

"Rex, is it?" Without waiting for an answer, she continued. "I am going to get something to eat. You are welcome to come, if you wish." She spun around on her heel, her long, silky hair rubbing against Rex's face like sheets of water. It smelled faintly of elderberries and mint. She started walking, but not nearly as fast or as purposeful as she was before, as if ... she wanted him to come.

Rex considered things for a moment. "So, what are you? Actually, wait, let me guess." He paused for a moment, and was promptly hit in the face by some of her hair, something he chose not to mention."You're an Airbender, aren't you? I knew only an airbender would jump off something like that. No one else would have the guts" He realized he was getting a little overexcited, and calmed himself down. After she acknowledged his name and made the rather bold (In Rex's opinion) move of asking if he'd like to tag along, Rex couldn't help but feel a tad shy, something he'd rarely experienced. "Uh, yeah. Alright, I guess i'll tag along." Once again, he was whipped in the face by her hair, and once again, he elected not to mention it.

It's not that i'm nervous about mentioning it, I just don't want to, there is no need in causing an argument Rex reassured himself. For a moment, he stood as she set off, but jogged after her a moment later, catching up in no time. "You know, i'm an airbender too." To demonstrate the fact, he sent a quick gust of wind through his cape, shooting it outwards, before letting it return to it's normal position. "So, what are you doing here? It's odd to find another like...myself in the Earth Kingdom." Although he'd just used it, Rex wasn't particularly proud of his Airbending skills.

With one, petite nod, she approved his statement. At his remark as to what she was doing here, a coy smile crossed her face, hidden by her locks of black hair. Slowly, almost seductively, she bumped against him, her hand running down his body almost imperceptibly. Then she pulled away. "Well ..." She dangled a coin purse in front of his face. "I came to get lunch." With a melodious laugh, she ran ... but not nearly as fast as an airbender should be possible.

If he checked where he hung his coin purse, he would find that it had indeed been stolen, the knots deftly untied by experienced hands. He would also notice the slight currents of air, carrying her scent; a mix of strawberries and mint. It was tantalizing, almost as if she wanted him to chase her. It would certainly be easy, considering the relatively slow speed at which they she was running.

The immediate pressing of Yuhi's body against his own was more than enough to make Rex flush a bright crimson. "Uh..." he was about to say something, but ceased his blabbering when his coin purse was waved in front of him, and subsequently removed out of his reach. For a moment, he thought she was simply another thief, and subconsciously started reaching for something cylindrical and heavy. He was, however, snapped out of his anger by the giggling of his new found... acquaintance.

Of course, she'd already set off, Rex stood there for another moment, a tad confused as to what to do. Then, it struck him. She wanted him to follow! Rex managed a quick smile, and set off after her. However, Rex ended up getting a tad overenthusiastic, being the extremely good bender he was, he practically shot forward, so much so that he couldn't control what he was doing very well. Of course, he ended up careering towards Yuhi at a pace unseen, feet off the ground.

Of course, he ungracefully barged straight into her. For a second, Rex's brain shut down and his instincts took over, he grabbed Yuhi, shot a blast of air in the opposite direction as to slow their descent, and moved the air around him in such a way that he was moved upright, and ended up landing with Yuhi more or less in his arms. He returned to his senses just in time to find himself drowning in her eyes, he didn't move for a moment, almost in awe and then promptly dropped her. "Uh...sorry"

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Poor meets the Privileged    The Poor meets the Privileged EmptyTue Jan 29, 2013 5:42 am

Suddenly, Yuhi of the Sunset found herself yanked off her feet by a bodily tackle from behind, presumably in a mistake, as a gust of wind - caused by airbending, of course - right there course ... somewhat. Yuhi found herself nose to nose with Rex, her blue eyes smoldering as they peered into his. Slowly, a blush formed on her face, as if she was trying to hide it; she dully noted that the boy had a blush to mirror her own. She was all too comfortable here; the way she seemed to fit with him, despite the differences in height. It was as if they were two pieces of different puzzles that inexplicably fit together. She was far too comfortable.

She noticed her hand had slowly come up to caress his cheek, slender, smooth fingers gently sliding down the etched features of his face. With a gasp, she broke away, a blast of compressed air flattening him and sending her flying upwards. She was panting heavily, her breast heaving in and out; his coin purse hung too limply in her hand. What was she feeling? Such an upsurge of emotion; exhilaration, joy, playfulness, shyness ... all wrapped together in a blanket of an emotion she couldn't quite identify, but made her ears warm to think about.

A slender, but strong, arm tossed Rex back his (rather empty) coin purse. In a smooth, silky voice, betraying none of the insecurity's she felt and all of the confidence she wished she felt at the moment, she said "You're buying dinner." She spread her arms widely to reveal a diner, a five-star restaurant by the looks of the sign. "The Galloping Tiger" it said. A swanky place.

Rex caught the purse, and internally straightened himself out. He reached into the depths of his mind, grasping his confidence like a log in the ocean. "In case you haven't noticed, I have nothing to..." Suddenly, his inner sense thumped him in the face. Rex looked to Yuhi's seemingly confident face, and for a moment, his heart leapt into action, pounding at the walls of his torso like a caged animal. It screamed at him, for her. Rex couldn't bare the thought of letting her down.

At the mere mention of it, he was stuck by a singe of terror, that began to eat away at him. Rex began to feel drained, and yet revitalized. The constant cycle of fear and happiness continued, tossing and turning around his body, seeping it's way into even the smallest cracks in his mind.

He sighed in an enjoyed defeat, running a single hand through his hair. "You know what? he chuckled. "Alright, let's go eat there. But, on one condition." He grinned, subtly nodding towards a small group of people outside the restaurant, decorated in all sorts of finery. "Shall we split the bill?"

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty
PostSubject: In which I try something new ...   The Poor meets the Privileged EmptyTue Feb 12, 2013 6:32 pm

A small smile lit her face, briefly showing perfect teeth, and bringing warmth to her cold eyes. The smile was small, simple; it showed nothing of the turmoil rebounding inside her head. Her heart was beating; so quickly, so powerful, it must surely be a medical condition, surely he could hear it? A tingle ran through her fingers; the urge to caress him, to touch his face, bring her fingers across his cheekbones.

Heat suffused her body, as if she had a fever; surely she was sick? She should seek medical treatment. Yet some small part of her knew it wasn't a virus that was causing it; it was this man, this ... Rex. She repeated the name to herself, her eyes glassing over. One touch couldn't hurt ... could it? Her hand raised, as if supported by air currents; slowly, shakily. Then ... he spoke. "Shall we split the bill?" her hand dropped back to her side, her eyes regaining their former intensity.

"Yes. Shall you lead?" She gestured to them. Her arms fell to her side, a black eyebrow raised ever so slightly as she gestured for him to go. Yet beneath her cool demeanor was that of a frantic girl. Her heart was beating heavily still, sending waves of heat suffusing her body. Her eyes glassed over, drifting almost unwillingly to his butt. She flushed, turning pink. "..."

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Poor meets the Privileged    The Poor meets the Privileged EmptyFri Feb 15, 2013 3:45 am

At her words the young lad found himself ever so slightly confused. He'd been under the impression that it would not be him stealing the money, but his...companion. Although that wouldn't really be 'splitting the bill' He scolded himself when he realized this, sure that she had picked up on that. He took a moment to again reflect on how much of a fool he was making of himself. His heart was burning, twisting, contorting and making him wished he hadn't screwed up. Every small mistake caused his body to roar at him in fearful anger.

Still, he was reluctant to do as requested, he did after all have little skill in the matter. Rex glanced away from the crowd, returning his gaze to the girl he'd wound up so desperately trying to impress. "Alright then..." He trailed off as, for a brief moment it seemed as if her eyes were elsewhere. After a moment, Rex flushed a bright pink, yet he felt oddly proud, as if he'd been placed on a podium and adored by the world, the guy responded well to flattery, yet another part of him had retreated in shyness. "A-As I was saying, let's, uh, go." Slowly Rex's eyes began to drift to her chest, resting there for but a moment before once again taking the plunge into her watery eyes.

"Oh, yeah, one thing. Before we go though, do you have any tips? You seem to be a good thief, one of the breast I've seen." A bead of sweat rolled down Rex's face as he realized what he had said, he silently gulped, praying she didn't notice. It was safe to say the poor guy wasn't exactly good at hiding his intentions, he doubted anyone could be more obvious than he. Though if his companion had any, Rex certainly hadn't been able to figure out what they were, and he couldn't help but fret that she may just be toying with him.

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Poor meets the Privileged    The Poor meets the Privileged EmptySat Feb 16, 2013 2:38 am

Her head tilted, black bangs obscuring one sapphire eye as she watched him move. "Hot ... damn ..." She whispered to herself. A flush crept through her face, turning her slightly tinted cheeks bright red as she realized she uttered it out loud. Hopefully, he didn't hear; that would be too embarrassing to hear. Her eyes, glazed and unfocused, her teeth gnawing on her lower lip, watched him. Emotions flickered her face, unrecognizable as any human emotions.

"... he has good form ... and a nice body ... tell me I did not just think that ... what is wrong with me?!" For some reason, she couldn't find herself to care that much, about thinking these thoughts, nor about her straying eyes. Her eyes grew more intense as he faced her; he seemed to be talking, but she didn't hear the words. Her thoughts were trained on his moving lips, her imagination wondering what it would be like to touch them, to place her lips against them, their mouths moving as one, their tongues-

Words. Words were being spoken, Yuhi forcefully reminded herself. She snapped her back to the present (and out of the gutter) in time to see his eyes stray ... well, downwards. A warm flush spread across her cheeks, her eyes widening infinitesimally. Her right hand, black nails glistening subtly in the afternoon light, slowly rose. Some small voice in the back of her head reminded her This is where you slap him! Yet ... her hand seemed to have other ideas.

A warm hand, surprisingly soft and gentle, slid down the side of her face. Her breath, scented with mint, caressed him, creating a cloud around him head. Fingertips slid down his chin, soft and gentle, yet sensual. Slowly, she moved closer, the palm of her hand cupping his face. Inches apart, their breaths mingling, suddenly she stopped, her eyes widening in surprise. With a rather uncharacteristic eek, she jumped back.

Her heart was in her ears. She couldn't breathe, surely he could hear her heartbeat. Surely he must see her heart beating in her chest, for the pounding of it was so intense, it must be moving the fabric of her shirt. Her lips were cherry red, parted as she looked at him. In a voice slightly higher than her normal melodious tone, she spoke. "You were slow." She said shakily, avoiding his eyes; her sapphire orbs searched for a new topic as she contemplated the mistake she (almost) made. "Idiot! What if he had turned you down?! You can't afford to be depressed!" She rolled her eyes at her own internal monologue.

She walked towards another couple, this one in rich silks, a coin-purse securely tied to his belt. Out of an inner pocket, she brought out an identical bag, full of rocks. Like a spectre, she glided towards her mark, the view temporarily obscured as she passed him; her hands worked, airbending aiding her process in un-tying then retying the bag of rocks to the owner patch, without the man being any the wiser. It took all of two seconds; she truly was experienced at pickpocketing. To hide this maneuver, she dropped a copper piece on the ground behind the man and bent to pick it up. "Found it!" She intoned brightly.

Just as slowly, she drifted back over to Rex, wanting - no, craving - his approval of her deeds. Slightly smug, she intoned "And that's how you steal a bear's porridge." As the words left her mouth, unbidden, she turned pale, horrified that she had used such a bad and childish analogy. Going from pale to bright red in two seconds flat, she wanted nothing more than to bury her head in her hands. "Let's, just, um, go ..." With that, she quickly walked into the restaurant.

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Poor meets the Privileged    The Poor meets the Privileged EmptySat Feb 16, 2013 9:47 am

Despite the spectacle of pick pocketing, he was focused on something different, Yuhi herself. Her every move seemed to be so refined and practiced, the way she glided towards her target was far more elegant than a thousand noble ladies, and he of all people would know. Perhaps he'd been encapsulated by her ever so slightly teasing touch, the thought of which sent a shiver down his spine. Whatever it was, he could stare at nothing but her. Even as she sauntered over he still found his brain in a mess, trying to make some sort of sense of what was happening. He did know, however that he absolutely needed her with him. Although it was rude to do so, he was slightly tuned out to her words, and her analogy flew right over his head.

As she set off for reasons unknown Rex followed behind like a man possessed, all the time his eyes focused right on the back of her head, he needed to do something. He ran a hand through his hair and began to bounce slightly, like a boxer warming himself up before a fight. Alright, let's go, you are going to run over to that girl and kiss her. It will be glorious. Just grab her and kiss her. Come on buddy, kiss the girl. He walked a bit faster, appearing by her side. Kiss the girl! Do it! A bead of sweat rolled down his face as Rex inched a little closer to her. They entered the restaurant, also entering a small queue, though it was hardly as if he noticed. He wished he could just pick her up and be done with the whole thing, but his strength was failing him. His wit had also left, as had any confidence he'd ever possessed. Yet he needed to do something, his whole body cried out in agony for it. Kiss her! They yelled, and he was attempting to obey them.

That was it. He was going to grab her, and he was going to kiss her. That was his decision, and it was final. In keeping with the spirit, he meekly slipped a hand around her waist. Suddenly he had an almost unstoppable urge to let go, there was far too much on the line to risk everything so soon! A stronger part of him took over, and steadied his hand, he had to try. Rex took a moment to breathe, and stepped in front of Yuhi, his arm still wrapped around her lower back. Then another hand, firm yet caring, lifted and caressed her smooth cheek. Time slowed, and Rex began to lean in, he'd gone so far already, all he needed was to push a little more. His hand slipped down, joining the other one around her waist. Rex's eyes fluttered shut and their lips drew painfully close, before a shrill cough caused Rex to falter for a moment. His eyes opened once again and he was roughly dragged out of his former, blissful trance. In a moment of horrible realization of how much of an idiot he was making of himself, Rex pulled back, removing one arm from her waist and immediately turning to look behind him, afraid to look at his companion. Before him stood a stoic, well dressed waiter, who raised a sharp, judgmental eyebrow. "Table for two, then?"

The Poor meets the Privileged Empty

A cool hand slipped around her waist, the strength noticeable as he touched her. A minute amount of skin could be felt where her shirt had ridden up; cool and silky smooth. Sapphire eyes locked onto Hazel ones that were suddenly too close, far too close. Delicate hands twitched, but didn't move. "I-I should be moving away. I shouldn't be feeling like this. I should be angry, not intensely happy. Nor should I be thinking about the kinds of things hands like that can do ..." A pink tongue flicked out to lick shapely lips, parted in an expression of bewilderment and expectation. "... shit."

Rex leaned in ever closer, a look that, for just a second, suggested he was going to do something she should be horrified about ... but was, instead, quite the contrary. Her breath caught in her throat, her eyes burned into his, and her heart beat like a bird against a cage ... "Table for two, then?" She jerked out of her trance. Her heart was beating rapidly, her breath short. "Y-yes." She winced at how her voice cracked. The concierge led them to a table by a window, a smirk on his face, one that Yuhi deigned to ignore. "Your waiter will be with you momentarily." the concierge drawled, before returning to his station. Yuhi didnt' care. Her thoughts were elsewhere.

"For just a second, he looked like he- but no. I probably had something in my teeth." She flushed, casting a light pink tinge to her elven features. Her eyes snapped up to glance at her companion; at his hazel eyes which burned with passion, his hands that she could only imagine could do all sorts of things, and his expensive clothes; her experience in picking out marks served her well in this aspect. If he was anyone else, he would be robbed blind. "But he isn't just some person." She realized with surprise. "I genuinely like him. I should be trying to take advantage of him. But I offered to pay. What has gotten into me?" Yuhi was no stranger to the carnal pleasure of life, but love and other pleasurable emotions were alien to her. Living the life she has led, this is no stranger.

Long fingers threaded together as she surveyed her companion. "I actually wish to know him ... that is ... unusual." She thought to herself, a bemused look on her face. Her eyes were, for once, not narrowed in anger or suspicion, but wide and open, surveying Rex with one eyebrow quirked. The smallest smile was on her face, casting her features in a pleasant light; a butterfly compared to her normal hornet. Shapely lips parted as she spoke. "So what are you doing in Gaoling? Somebody like you doesn't strike me as the traveler type." Her lips parted teasingly as she spoke these words.
